I mean you no offense but you answer to that post about cats is really misinformed. Cats are an invasive species just about everywhere in the works. Your cats killing a pigeon doesn't hurt much but native lizards, salamanders, frogs, and endangered birds are in danger from cats being let outdoors. At least give your cat a collar with a bell if your going to let it outside
Hi anon! First of all, thanks for being polite about this. My answer to that post is based on about five years of pre-vet training (as in, volunteering at an animal hospital) and on my own experience with cats in the last 19 years. My cats do in fact have bells on their collars, and both of them are leash trained. I am aware that sometimes cats kill native species, but in most cases, the cat is also a native species. This, of course, isn’t to say that a Siamese cat is native to North America, but that cats as a species have been in most places longer than we have. Certain kinds of cats are 100% a non-native species, but to say that cats as a whole are invasive is in fact misinformed. My point in that post was to say that the culture of shaming people who let their cats out is almost akin to those who shame people for giving their cats food with meat. Cats need to go outside, just as much as we do.
