July fic #06: Jewelry

"Close your eyes," had been the first words out of John's mouth upon returning from work,"no peeking."

Sherlock, completely lost, did so, making sure to screw his eyes completely shut in order to stop himself from peeking. Though the temptation to do so was very strong,"Alright...?"

He heard John approach him, then going around the back of his chair. There was a gentle touch of a hand on his jaw, one that made him flinch a bit from surprise, that tilted his chin up a bit,"Didn't mean to scare you."

"You're fine."

The hand left a tingling sensation on his skin. Sherlock missed the warmth John provided in those few, short seconds. But a new sensation quickly took his attention; it was a chain, a small chain brushed his cheek. It was clear that a loop of ballchain was just placed around his neck, the pendant- no pendants clinked together in the centre of his chest.

"You can look now," John permitted him.

After blinking a couple times to re-adjust to the lighting, he took the two thin metal pendants in his hand,"It's a copy of your dog tags." His heart skipped a beat at the realisation,"But-"

"Look at the other one," He still stood behind the lanky man, only now with a hand on his shoulder.

He looked carefully at the second one on a separate loop:

"For me?"

"You never served so I didn't have an actual serial number to put in there, but yes, for you," John placed a small kiss atop Sherlock's head,"I love you."

"I love you too, John."

"Happy anniversary my brilliant, brilliant detective."

i understand none of y’all know maths but the fact that a worm had to jump ‘six feet in the air’ to get at martin doesn’t mean martin is tall. he didn’t fucking walk right up to a creepy eldritch worm going huh what is that. he maintained a distance. the worm jumped at an angle. martin’s fucking short. remember pythagorus???? six feet is the hypotenuse!!! martin’s height is the opposite side!!! he’s short!!
