suddenly thinking about how brookyn 99 is some of the most effective copaganda out there because even when they're doing really questionable shit it's all framed as really goofy and light and the characters are endearing (to most people)

and then there's like the closer, which is also copaganda, but instead you end up blatantly cheering for people who intimidate witnesses and manipulate people into confessions and set up criminals to be killed. and it's not even that it's never questioned, there's a massive arc around it and one of the (eventually) most popular characters is in internal affairs

this isn't an indictment for watching or enjoying either--i outright adore the closer, it's one of my longest standing fandoms, and i root for brenda leigh as much as anyone--but sometimes i think about all the different ways these shows frame law enforcement and it's like 1) for the lolz 2) they're actually just and true and caring (L&O:SVU, etc) or 3) their actions are justified or at least morally grey because the people they're acting against are so much worse
