Sg1 really the polycule to end all polycules bc each of the four of them has a unique & complex relationship with each of the others (Sam/Jack vs Sam/Daniel vs Sam/Teal'c, repeat for each individual) but they also have a unique & complex overarching relationship so that when there's just three of them there's always this imbalance as a result of the missing corner of the parallelogram. All four of them are codependent on each other and on the unit as a whole. They spend a lot of their time wandering around outdoors and Looking At Stuff together, eating around campfires, occasionally spending prolonged periods of time alone together, fighting to save each other's lives. They're a litter of puppies marked do not separate. Not one of them is ok. Not one of them is regular. They're all insane about each other.

Silent hill 2 inspired post-Journey's End story.

Ten, in a fugue state (not unlike what he thought was happening in The Next Doctor) has suppressed his memories of what happened to Donna, unable to deal with the fact that he took her memories against her will. Maybe he's convinced himself she's 'lost'— perhaps in a way similar to what happened to Rose. Maybe he thinks she's dead. Until he gets a summons from her from some mysterious location, and despite it being impossible, he must go and see if she could really be there.

And this is where the idea kind of solidified for me— have some impersonation of Rose cast in the role of Maria. Not only does she kind of have a similar vibe to Maria anyway (good for her tbh they're both baddies but I like the writing for one better lol), and the dynamic would translate well, his distance and her insistence, but it's also a tie with how he wishes he could've given Donna an ending like Rose's— Rose is kind of Ten's biggest success story in his mind, I think. As far as companion endings go. She's safe, she's with her family, she's whole, and she's away from him, where he can't damage her anymore but she's left with good memories of their time together.

So this apparition takes on her form and has that "Do I look like your girlfriend?" energy, playing off the general pop culture perception of Rose being Ten's girlfriend, when he's actually looking for his wife, Donna (this AU is TOTALLY unbiased! Just kidding, it's self indulgent fun and by fun I mean misery!!!)

And the memory loss angle just blends so beautifully with what he ACTUALLY did to Donna, you know? Coming to that dreadful realization at the end, having to reckon with taking responsibility for that, having been lost and stumbling in confusing and terror without his memories that are so important— terrible and awful. I love it so much.

Also, just how great would it be to have a Silent Hill "projection of your deepest subconscious as horrific monsters" type story with the Doctor? His technological tricks not working so well in a place that's defined by his perception filtered through higher powers, left running and bludgeoning his way through the horrors...

i think World does need to go through a growth phase where they realize they belong in the planet, not outside of it, so it's okay to eat, it's okay to partake in the cycle of life. and we just have to collectively as an intelligent species experience the moral disquiet that comes with being able to fully understand that all life necessitates ending life to exist, and to nurse that spiritual wound. i think this is what religion is.

i have, before pluribus, often thought about how turning others into resources is baked into the very dna of life on earth, you know. just holding it in my head and feeling some type of way about it.

i think asking all of the questions the show is asking is important for the understanding of the universe and the nature of existence. pluribus is a work of philosophy. all life on earth is relational and life on earth is extractive. both are true. what do you do with the knowledge that survival itself has victims? that to be alive is to be implicated?

it's cosmically frightening to interrogate that. because it makes you ask, if my existence is imperfect, is there an existence that is? what does it look like? do i feel relief when i imagine it? or is it so alien as to be repulsive? an intelligence and life that has the means to self-perpetuate without creating violence is both unfathomable and beautiful in a way that i am locked out of, and it hurts that i am.

there an even bigger, eldritch moral framework that is inaccessible to us, because we are beholden to the life we KNOW - and if there's life that doesn't necessitate taking, where does that place us, humans, us, earthlings, in an ethical framework that scopes the entire universe, existence, matter, things that are?

hunger binds us to harm. it's a tragedy of the existence we have access to. we long to imagine a mode of existence where relation doesn't equate loss. earth life may be unable to reach the ethical horizon and see what's on the other side, but we can glimpse it.

so if god exists, if moral perfection does, it is something that does not require victims.

I fucking love that Claudia literally made up the train story. There wasn’t any part of truth in it. I didn’t think they’d go there because of how much they’ve softened all of these characters, but they really committed.

And guess what? It didn’t change a thing about how Louis and Lestat treated her. She’s still a victim. Still a bandaid for a shitty marriage. Still a roof shingle that flew off of their house. They still doomed her to an eternity of misery.

I do think Lestat saw her the most clearly though. He saw how monstrous she could be and loved her all the more for it, not in spite of it. Stained Glass Eyes, while self-indulgent, is more about how he thinks she might react to him rather than purely his own grief. He was complicit in killing her, after all. It doesn’t mean he can’t love her. Love between vampires can be countless things.

I know people post this quote a lot, but it’s a really good one.

genuinely open to disagreement but delainey’s pained delivery of “bleak… black life” felt like the anti-black insults she was hurling at louis were intentionally loaded with her own grief. especially with her comments that claudias jealous that louis gets to wallow and love and live.

louis gets to be black and desired, cherished and wanted with his whole personhood. louis gets to fuck up, be fucked up, forgive and be forgiven; he gets to be black and a whole person. claudia is disabled into helplessness by her little girl body that seems to keep signalling people to treat her like a boxed doll. its not a coincidence that she gets louis to plot against lestat by telling him he’s a kept thing, telling him he is all the things she experiences. the anger in her voice when she calls louis a slave, it feels situated against the incessant inertia she was always running on because she had no other choice.

in nola, its claudia micromanaging with an eye and ear on everyone. she nurses louis after the drop, she maintains the thread of their plotting. in europe, its claudia learning the languages, claudia keeping up the story, claudia maintaining hypervigillance. she notices the bombs about to blow while louis’ being woeful and hallucinating lestat. louis gets to be lost in lestats eyes; louis gets to dance with humans in romania; louis gets to run around paris ‘out on the streets’ while shrugging off armands warnings. louis gets to be careless, gets to be oblivious, gets to drown in his pain and still be protected and unconditionally loved. what louis couldnt even give her

the blackness claudia navigates her life with is so radically different from louis’ that it makes a lot of sense that she so ardently hates his

louis going out of his way to drink lestats blood after learning about his relationship to gabriella is actually so important because it’s his way of showing lestat that despite what louis said earlier he is not disgusted by him. he still loves him, he still wants him and he wants to share his blood with him (something which according to lestat is more intimate than having sex)

i like the idea i've been seeing circulating that the reason claudia's “stuck” in a “spidery-ass nowhere” and can't find madeline is because she's in purgatory (the fixation with telling louis to burn her diaries and her dress makes a lot of sense with her wanting to sever any remaining connection) and i love the hopeful twist of believing that being finally able to express her rage at louis and lestat is what will finally get her out of there and i want to add that it's so perfect that we're never going to be able to know for sure. if claudia's free it means she's free from the story. it means she's free from all of them, but also from all of us.
