I feel like the cycle of fandom generating and then discarding concepts is speeding up. We’re moving so quickly between the stages of “someone posted a novel thing, I’m going to play with it a bit” to “while I wasn’t looking, the rest of the dash decided it was cringe and are mocking it now.” And there is really no rhyme or reason for why some stuff gets that treatment while some stuff is gospel, and why some people are the designated tastemakers (by who?).

But you never really escape being seven and wondering why the other kids think you’re a freak when you’re trying so hard to mimic them. Or in this case, why you seem to post a niche concept fic, turn around, and realize you’ve once again done the equivalent of wearing last-season’s dress to the fandom husking bee.
