The Darcy Family Album: Volume X

Still with the Darcys today (I had a lot of catching up to do with them), and it's time for a birthday get-together!

Eliza has invited her sister Martha, who has brought her sometime-boyfriend James with her. No one invited Grace the Stroppy Stray - she just showed up of her own accord.

That greeting kiss seems to have sealed the deal for James!

Grandma Mary is also here, eschewing her reclusive lifestyle for once.

Thanks to granddad Fitzwilliam's dedication to the cause - despite his creaking back - Agnes masters walking, just in time!

Aunt Georgiana is also here, and bizarrely, James has decided that she is the girl for him too! (Although they do have a history.)

While he reflects rather soberly on the unexpected turns that his love life has taken within the space of only an hour, his two paramours (not forgetting Olivia and Henrietta too) settle down together for a friendly game of chess.

Frankly, it's all a bit of a relief when the time comes to blow out some candles!

The Darcy Family Album: Volume XIV

It's a golden autumn, so there's still plenty of chance to play outside, on a trip to the park.

Although the girls spend most of their time gossiping together.

And look who else is here this afternoon - it's Dolly!

It should probably come as no surprise that Lewis forms an immediate bond with her.

And that he persuades his grandma to welcome her into the family. Her days of roaming the neighbourhood are over!

It's probably good that Lewis has acquired a new feline friend, as his sisters increasingly gang up against him; with her meagre 2 Grouchy/Nice points and dominant personality, it's invariably Agnes who takes the lead. 😟

As the weather becomes cooler, the days of childhood are finally behind the twins.

And finding a willing confidant in his grandfather Fitzwilliam, who knows all too well what it's like to feel awkward in company, and reassures him that it's just a case of finding 'his' people.

The Darcy Family Album: Volume XI

It's our last day with the Darcys for a while now, so make the most of it!

Agnes is not above a little cheating, to get what she wants. (I think she definitely takes after her grandfather Fitzwilliam in looks, although perhaps she has her mum Eliza's nose.)

She just needs to learn not to get caught.

Lewis prefers to spend his time with the feline members of the family.

The twins haven't even started school yet, but grandma Charlotte is already expecting great things from them academically.

When you have two cats, you tend to end up with more. Meet Maki...

and Nigiri, the adorable offspring of Sushi and Trinny.

And now say goodbye to Nigiri! I'm sure we'll see him again one day though.

School pal John seems very taken with Maki, the remaining kitten - and who wouldn't be?!

Isabel bursts into childhood, catching up with her twin siblings.

Agnes has a smart new look for school - a sleek bob and snazzy glasses in her favourite colour.

It seems it's time for that talk already - maybe Agnes asked where kittens come from? She seems to be taking it in her stride though.

Lewis, however, has found something very eye-opening in his homework. He's got new glasses too - and I think they suit him perfectly!

Fitzwilliam and Charlotte have high hopes for their grandchildren, and couldn't be more nurturing of their intellectual development.

Ah, it seems like only yesterday that Trinny was a kitten herself. (Actually, it probably was.)

Sleep tight, little one, until we see you again.

The Darcy Family Album: Volume VIII

Eliza's suspicions are confirmed - that's a very definite pop!

Sushi is very excited at the prospect of another family member to keep his snuggle levels topped up.

And even though it's rather earlier than planned, the expectant parents are both very happy.

In the end, Lucas manages to sleep his way through the birth, but at least Charlotte is there, to remind Eliza to keep breathing.

It's a son! Hello, Lewis! (Lucas, you're looking the wrong way...)

And, a daughter! Welcome, Agnes! So, there are now two new Darcys to carry on the family line.

New grandfather Fitzwilliam swings into action. I suspect that Agnes might already be feeling the disadvantage of being second in line to the Darcy inheritance.

What, again? You were only ever planning to have one, but now you're going for three? Oh well...

Sushi greets an old friend. He's sure that it will all turn out well in the end, but at the moment, he's really not getting his full quota of attention, thanks to the two new Sim kittens.

Snuggles please!

With the arrival of second daughter (thankfully no more twins!), I suspect that Sushi might have a rather long wait until he is top cat again. Hello, Isabel! She has her grandmother Charlotte's eyes.

The Darcy Family Album: Volume IX

The Darcy tots are growing fast.

I'm not sure that the top of the stairs is an entirely safe place to toss a baby in the air.

This looks a much more appropriate location.

Fitzwilliam has long been improving the family's fiscal situation, with his online financial consultancy. Little Agnes is hoping to follow in her grandfather's footsteps, making early progress on those Logic skills. While Sushi just wants someone to notice him.

Lewis obliges - that's better!

As if three rugrats weren't enough to keep everyone occupied, someone (that would be me) decides to expand the family still further, by getting a new kitten. Hello again, Trinny (formerly of the Knightley family)!

Excuse me, why is that small orange creature eating from my bowl?

She's popular with someone though.

And then she brings the whole household to a standstill, by deciding to have forty winks at the bottom of the stairs. (Seriously, everyone stood at the top and bottom of the stairs, stamping their feet, until the tiny kitten deigned to wake up.)

Isabel ages up very sleekly (that hair is all wrong for her though).

And so does Trinny, giving Lucas quite a shock over his mac 'n' cheese in the process.

Sushi is pleased to discover that the new family member is much more fun that she seemed at first.

The three inhabitants of the nursery aren't enjoying themselves quite as much as the family cats though.

Peace at last, as the girls play together contentedly.

Should I be worried about this?!

Fitzwilliam rather surprised me, by rolling a Want to retire - presumably so that he could be more involved in the upbringing of his grandchildren - but I guess when you've reached the top of the business tree, there's nowhere else to go! Teaching the little ones to walk is rather playing havoc with his back though.

The Darcy Family Album: Volume XIII

With the kids getting older, the grown ups are once more able to snatch a bit of time to themselves. Grandma Charlotte picks up her yoga again.

And busy working parents Eliza and Lucas find opportunities for sneaky romantic moments.

Although Lewis is the next-generation scientist of the family, Isabel rather surprisingly wins the school Science Fair prize this year. But being just as much of a Perfectionist as her brother, she does always put 100% effort into everything she does, even if it's not a particular interest of hers.

John seems to come home from school with the girls every day.

On this occasion though, Agnes discovers that sitting indoors reading the paper is much more fun than getting pelted by water balloons, and eventually leaves the other two to their boisterous game!

At the weekend, it's time for a family get together, giving the cousins a chance to get to know each other better. Look at my three little nerds! Lewis, Dora and Felix.

Dinner time conversation from Knowledge/Fortune Sim Eliza: she certainly appreciates the value of money, but extending the bounds of Sim knowledge is her foremost concern, and acquisition of wealth is only important insofar as it furthers her primary aim. Her Knowledge/Fortune Sim husband Lucas is in quiet agreement, but thinks it's wisest not to dispute his fiscally-minded mother Charlotte on the matter!

Dora and Isabel get engrossed in a game of chess.

Lewis feels most comfortable with the equally shy Felix.

But eventually he's done enough 'peopling' for one day, and welcomes the opportunity to wind down with a bedtime story from grandma - about space travel, of course.

It's been a satisfying but tiring day, although Hyper Maki is still full of beans!

I always knew this day had to come, and the next morning it's time to say goodbye to cute and cuddly fluffball Sushi. The family just won't feel complete without him!

The Darcy Family Album: Volume XII

Hello again to the Darcys!

When we left them last time, Maki was a tiny little scrap of a kitten, but look at him now!

This family really loves their cats.

So much that the cleaning service is not deemed worthy to freshen their litter tray.

But no one loves them more than Lewis.

In truth, he has a special affinity with all animals, often preferring them to people. He doesn't feel awkward or uncertain around animals, because they accept you just as you are, and if you're kind to them, they will be kind to you in return. But people are much more complicated, and it can be hard to figure out what they really want from you.

His younger sister Isabel and his twin Agnes increasingly play together, without including him in their games.

School friend John is a regular playmate too.

Although he doesn't like it when Agnes doesn't play fair.

Lewis does find some common ground with his cousin Thomasina, who is herself a rather serious and reserved young lady.

And best of all, she likes the cats - and they like her!

Yes, Sushi, you're cute too!

Trinny is less amiable with visitors - although to be honest, I don't blame her, as I don't know who this random guy is either!

The Dashwood Family Album: Volume XXII

We're dropping in on the household of Keziah's older sister Clara today, for some scenes of cosy domesticity.

There's always plenty of fun to be had in the bathroom.

Although I think this is a rather more hygienic pastime for youngest child Harry.

I love how the activity table allows kids of all ages to play together - John's schoolmate Isabel is joining him and his sister Alice this afternoon for a friendly colouring session.

Not to be outdone by her younger sister, Clara decides to add a fourth youngster to her own brood too.

Harry doesn't seem to think this is a wise move, and neither do I, given the modest proportions of their house!

But big brother John leaps into action, getting the bathroom spic and span in readiness for the new arrival.

And here she is - welcome to the neighbourhood, Matilda! She has her dad Daniel's soft blue eyes.
