I'm not super well-versed in other types, but I'm an ISFP and wanted to share a theory I have. I recently started to notice how the way I watch shows/movies varies. Here are the ways I've picked up on:
Most often I revert to my Fi ways and naturally compare the plotlines and decisions of the characters to my personal beliefs and values. The details of quality (in acting and cinematography) and of accuracy, tend to fall out of my focus and don't seem super important as long as the story meshes with my values. This was especially true when I was younger.
I have found that I also have times where I'm more focused on the cinematography and acting and appreciate them as artforms, and I think that has to do with my Se. In such cases, my Fi is definitely still present and I often think about how the cinematography/acting adds to the emotional impact of the show/movie. But unlike when I was young, quality becomes important to me at times like this.
On other occasions, I think I find myself using my inferior Te while watching shows/movies and that is when I become pickier about accuracy. I think things like, "Why in the world did he try to check for a pulse with his thumb?" When normally I would just let it roll like water off a duck's back. When this actually happened, my Fi tried to defend the character. No one can know everything, not everyone grew up with a paramedic in the house. But then I remembered it wasn't real, and as a writer myself, low-key judged the writer for not taking a few seconds to look up how to take a pulse.
So based on this observation, I was thinking personality type might play a pretty big role in the variety of genres we enjoy and how we enjoy them. What do you think? Have you noticed differences in yourself at different times when you watch TV?
