*BIG FAT SPOILERS*
*LIKE SERIOUSLY*
anyway its late and i wanted to rant cuz i just watched the episode again
first of all the countdown concept is so cool (ik its inspired by another movie) but even if u dont notice it, it still subtley provides a sense of unsettling impending doom which is revealed in the end with the cab number and the actual bad news.
what i really wanted to comment on was jason segel's acting and delivery in that last part of the episode. from what i understand he wasnt given the script to that last part so when lily told him the news that his father died his reaction was completely improvised and the only instruction he was told was to react after lily said the word "it", which was in the context of "he didn't make it". jason's reaction was so raw and you can see all the different emotions kind of ping pong in his head trying to wrap around what had just been said and he doesn't know what to do in the sense that he's hesitant to hug lily or speak or anything really and i feel like its such a real portrayal of grief in that moment (granted ive never experienced this). but what really breaks me is his improved line "im not ready for this" and its delivered so raw and emotional it genuinely makes me cry every single time and even the contents of what he said in that short sentence express so much. i feel like it accurately captures that feeling of your stomach sinking and your world spinning after finding out something bad and i just wanted to point out jason segal's awesome sauce acting as well as the show's portrayal of such devastating and vulnerable moments despite being a light and funny sitcom.
farewell 😝
