The Very Tiny Zine of I’m Sorry I’ll Read That Again ! if you unfold and flip it there’s also a tiny poster !
Muses with Milligan- the continuation of the first part.
3.17 to Cleethorpes- a play from 60s radio programme I’m Sorry I’ll Read That Again concerning a secret agent whose work is so secret he can’t even be told what it is, a nun (or a penguin) and the general state of the British rail system.
Total Eclipse of Descartes- radio show by Robert Newman critically discussing philosophy, but it’s also a comedy show so some of the points are exaggerated or simplified for jokes. However I don’t know enough about philosophy to know and get angry, unlike with his earlier science based shows.
Listeners on Strike- an opening sketch from I’m Sorry I’ll Read That Again. The programme is so bad the listeners are encouraged not to tune in.
Bunk Bed- Patrick Marber and Peter Curran have meandering conversations whilst lying in a real bunk bed.
The comedian and actor, whose career spanned more than six decades, was 79.
Had the privilege to see Tim Brooke-Taylor at a recent recording of I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue. ISIHAC and its sister show ISIRTA are two of the funniest radio shows ever, and they still stand the test of time. A big part of that was down to Tim Brooke-Taylor’s ability to be silly and do silly voices (and play a lot of the girl parts brilliantly). Lady Constance de Coverlet (”but you can call me bedspread”) will be missed.
(Feeling sorry for Barry Cryer who once again will have to give yet more interviews following the death of a friend.)
I relistened to Zurich last night and I feel it is my duty to inform everyone that the line Arthur and Gordon share- “cross my heart and hope to die, terrapins tickle me if I lie” is from the final 1973 series of I’m Sorry I’ll Read That Again when their “funny animal” of the moment was terrapins. John Finnemore is of course a well-known, highly respected comedy nerd, and he took a throwaway line from an old comedy series and made it h e a r t b r e a k i n g.
Also Gordon’s actor Timothy West is married to Prunella Scales, who plays Martin’s mum????
ISIRTA is like [angus prune tune] [lady constance] [fiona rabbit vacuum] [bill oddie wishes he was a pop star] [spot the dog] [tim brown windsor] [terrapins] [john Cleese is a tool] [gibbons] [im sorry, I’ll read that again] [david hatch is boring] [ferrets] [grimbling] [eddie waring impression]
