I'm so very sad to hear of Prunella Scales' passing. She's an absolute legend of British stage & screen, probably best known for Fawlty Towers, where she perfectly played Basil's long-suffering wife, Sybill.
In 2013 she was diagnosed with vascular dementia and still went on to make Great Canal Journeys with her husband Timothy West, which followed them along various canals as well as chronicling her struggles with dementia, something I'm forever grateful for as it gave an upclose look at the disease and how it effects the sufferer and everyone around them.
Her husband of 61 years, Timothy West, passed almost a year ago, but at least they're together again now. My thoughts are with her family tonight.
Rest in peace, Prunella Scales ❤️
Inside No. 9: Sardines
Just finished another relisten of Cabin Pressure, since it’s now on Spotify
God that show’s good, I am so sad ;-; Every time I finish Zurich it’s just “I wish there was more” and “I’m so glad it didn’t go on too long”
Seriously that ending is just 👌👌👌👌
And OJS Air; First officer Martin du Crieff and a Captain Otter in the flight deck; flying into the sunset on a long flight all the way to another “A” airport; Douglas teasing Carolyn with “Mrs Ship-” after finally getting an “I Love You Herc”; of COURSE the list of ironies from the fairytale ending… there’s SO MUCH
It just all feels so LOVED as it absolutely was.
Oh Cabin Pressure you will always be perfect. As GERTI keeps somehow staggering on with her wet nose and waggling tail, you’ll both, along with her dumbass, stupidly sweet crew, stand the fucking test of time ;-;
RIP Timothy West who died today aged 90

"We met when we were cast with small parts in that really boring play, so had both brought the crossword to stop us going mad. We saw each other across the rehearsal room doing it, so decided to sit together. Then we couldn’t record because of the strike one day so we went to the cinema, Pru and I, to see The Grass is Greener with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. The show was cancelled, but a bit later Pru sent me a card saying ‘they’re reviving that terrible play, are you in it?’ I wasn’t but we started writing to each other then."
"Humour is vital, and respect for what people do and what people think. Kindness is important, and we’ve always had the same humour, laughed at the same things, been interested in the same things, got cross about the same things. And been in the same business. We have often been away from each other work-wise and therefore we’re always very glad to see each other again."
