The murder of Qandeel Baloch IS a Muslim problem. It is a Hindu problem and it is very largely a South Asian problem. To deny this is denying that our society is not corrupt and ridden with women-hatred and spite for any woman who tries to live freely on her own terms. Until we as a community stop viewing women as property of their fathers or husbands or brothers, we have no hope. Honour killings are a Muslim problem, and don’t try to separate the two. This ideology that a woman deserves to die because she is dishonouring her family is bred and spread in Muslim and Hindu communities in South Asia. Your religion HAS PLAYED a huge role in it. It is absolutely disgusting that people believe the MURDER of women and girls is justified because of how their behaviour reflects on their families. Fuck this extremely dangerous mindset. Fuck Indian and Pakistani families that think they have a right to tell their daughters or wives how to behave “properly”. Granted with this case, photos of Qandeel Baloch came out with a famous mufti (Islamic scholar), so there was more to it. Religious leaders don’t care about fucking women in private but making their lives a conservative hell to the public. They don’t care about the honour of women, or their safety. They only care about using their religion to POLICE AND CONTROL women and don’t you forget it. Muslim communities are ridden with women hate and the desire to control them. As are Hindu communities and the rest of the population in South Asia. It is time to change and recognize and ADMIT the role your religion is playing in the murder and policing of women.
