These mouthwatering malasadas from Leonard's Bakery on Oahu will transport you to Hawaii. This recipe will allow you to make these fluffy, deep-fried donuts, which are a popular treat in Hawaii.
Ingredients: 4 cups all-purpose flour. 1/2 cup granulated sugar. 1/2 teaspoon salt. 1 package active dry yeast. 1 cup warm water. 4 large eggs. 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted. 1/2 cup whole milk. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Vegetable oil, for frying. Powdered sugar, for dusting.
Instructions: Combine the yeast and warm water in a large bowl. Give it a good five to ten minutes to get foamy. Mix the yeast mixture with the sugar, salt, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Blend until thoroughly blended. Add the flour gradually and knead the dough until it becomes elastic and smooth. For this step, you can use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook attachment. Once the dough has doubled in size, cover it and let it rise in a warm place for one to two hours. Preheat vegetable oil to 350F 175C in a deep fryer or large pot. Pinch off dough fragments and roll them into tiny balls with a diameter of two to three inches. Gently drop the dough balls into the heated oil, and cook for three to five minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and golden brown. After taking the malasadas out of the oil, drain them on paper towels. Lightly dust the malasadas with powdered sugar while they're still warm. Enjoy your warm Hawaiian Malasadas Donuts!
