Everyone says I visited Scotland the wrong time of year… Here’s what I say: I’m willing to pay the price of riding in the winter for… 1. No crowds 2. Villages, towns and cities with minimal tourists 3. Locals that are welcoming and not stressed out by the influx of people 4. Quiet, serene landscapes where I’m usually the only one here 5. Uncongested roads with no traffic 6. Empty hostels where I’m usually the only person in a 12+ bunk room Now, you all know about the climate and the stress this is causing on my body, but this is worth it to me. What do you think? Hello from the Fairy Pools in the Isle of Skye! Why are these called the Fairy Pools? Legend says that a local Clan MacLeod chief married a fairy princess, giving rise to many fairy place names on the Isle of Skye. It is also said that Fairy Pools attracted selkies. Selkies are mythological creatures that disguise themselves as large seals during the day and come to the beach at the foot of Glen Brittle where they would shed their skins and change into human form for the night, to bathe in the pools under the light of a full moon. Amazing legend, huh? I didn’t see any selkies or fairies, but this place and the entire Isle of Skye definitely feel mystical. It constantly felt like I was being watched.
