ellie is an autodidact.

she gets bored easily, so she spends a lot of time at the library because it’s free and she likes reading ( contrary to popular belief! ). she likes encyclopedias because she’s never really sure what she wants to read and they have so much information, so she doesn’t have to actually make a choice. ellie reads a lot but she’s by no means “smart” in the sense that she knows anything practical. she just knows a lot of random facts that don’t really help her in her daily life. mostly about cats. 

she’s also read every issue of cat fancy- she was very distraught when they stopped publishing.
