Love how Isom's immediate reaction to any situation ever is to sacrifice himself.
Like a large part of that is the suicidality. He would gladly throw himself in front of a sword because it'd be a way to die with more honor that straight-up jumping off a roof, and maybe his friends would hold him close as he bleeds out and weep over him.
But even in non-death situations he'll always try to take it himself.
He would rather take the beating himself. He would rather be humiliated himself. He would rather be violated himself. He would rather go through all the worst things he's ever been through again than let anyone he cares about be hurt.
After all, he's been through it all before. What's one more time? If he can keep them safe, keep them protected, keep them innocent, then it's worth it.
Besides, he's going to kill himself soon anyway, so what's wrong with being hurt another time? It'll end soon enough.
