For each element in the Look-And-Say sequence (OEIS A005150), add the digits together (e.g. 1 -> 1, 11 -> 2, 21 -> 3, 1211 -> 5, etc.). Then answer all the questions associated with the new sequence.
oh my god, dude. did you just come up with a really specific and convoluted way to ask the set of questions you wanted to ask, or did you just need a way to generate some pseudo-random numbers? actually don’t tell me.
so, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 13, 16, 23, and it doesn’t go up to 32
1. if someone wanted to really understand you, what would they read, watch, and listen to?
General outlook on the human condition: read Meditations on Moloch. Aesthetic: play Ghost Trick. Current mood: listen to It’s Good To Be Alive. Really understanding a person: maybe possibly do something other than consuming a media???
2. have you ever found a writer who thinks just like you? if so, who?
Well, no, not really, because I think I’m too weird for anyone to think exactly like me, but while Scott Alexander is maybe too much of a serious grownup who cares about serious grownup things to count, I’ve agreed with him on practically everything he’s ever said (except the occasional exaggerated complaint about feminism). Also @eternalfarnham and I tend to be on the same wavelength when it comes to writing.
3. list your fandoms and one character from each that you identify with.
Idk if I’m really anything-fandom, and I like too much stuff for this to be a useful question, but here’s a 2-year-old post about my favorite characters from a bunch of stuff that’s still pretty accurate. (Peridot has edged out Garnet as my favorite SU character, and in more recent stuff I’ve gotten into, Sans is the most relatable Undertale, Rui from Gatchaman Crowds is #lifegoals, and Hououin Kyouma from Steins;Gate is practically my goddamn self-insert OC)
5. do you think of yourself as a human being or a human doing? do you identify yourself by the things you do?
um. kinda? sorta? i guess it would be the latter since i can’t exactly wrap my head around what the difference between the two would be. i guess the former would be if i was really attached to some identity category or categories??? which i’m not?
8. what musical artists have you most felt connected to over your lifetime?
Most of my favorite artists I like because their music is fun and makes me feel good, not because of a connection to their lyrics. I don’t think I’ve really felt connected to an artist, but the closest would probably be (don’t judge me) the Beatles (musical persona John Lennon, as opposed to real-life abuser John Lennon, is one of my favorite people. i agree with like 85% of Revolution, sorry). Also, since nearly every one of TMBG’s songs is like a portrait of a deliberately atypical character, there’s no escaping having a few of those songs that really resonate with me.
I’ve been debating writing a manifesto, yeah. It would probably boil down to “try really hard to like things, value forgiveness and mercy, treat everyone as if they think they’re the hero of their own story, and recognize that group psychology is totally different from individual psychology”.
Or maybe more concisely, “Insist on a happy ending”.
outside’s got too many bugs and when it don’t got too many bugs it’s got too many colds. D-
16. if you’d grown up in a different environment, do you think you’d have turned out the same?
like. definitely not? no? i’m a product of a whole lot of very specific and unusual circumstances, and i can’t look at how massive shifts in my personality were precipitated by recognizable environmental factors and... somehow imagine otherwise
23. how often would you want to see your family every year?
My gut reaction is “NONE, NO TIMES, NEVER AGAIN” on account of I have to deal with them every single day and it’s incredibly stressful, but realistically I’d probably miss some of them enough to go to like, a yearly family gathering or something. The four consecutive months I spent by myself in a college dorm weren’t enough to make me homesick, though, so at least that long.
