Two emergency response organizations based in Israel have offered Los Angeles residents and even local firefighters help in combating the deadly wildfires that are currently raging and causing destruction throughout the Los Angeles area.
The international, nongovernmental humanitarian organization IsraAID announced on Sunday that it will send an emergency response team to help Los Angeles residents rebuild their lives and communities in the aftermath of the deadly wildfires.
Meanwhile, ZAKA, Israel’s volunteer civilian emergency service organization, said on Monday that it has offered LA firefighters immediate assistance in trying to maintain control of the ongoing wildfires. ZAKA said “highly experienced volunteer firefighters, including ZAKA South Africa teams, stand ready to deploy and seamlessly integrate with local forces in preserving lives and property.”
The wildfires in Los Angeles broke out on Jan. 7 and have already killed at least 24 people. More than 12,000 homes and structures have been damaged or destroyed and more than 100,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes, according to officials. Authorities said more than two dozen people are reported missing, Reuters noted on Monday.
Since 2001, IsraAID has provided humanitarian response during and after emergencies to communities around the world. As of January 2025, the organization has responded to more than 100 emergencies in more than 65 countries. It has often worked with the veterans-based disaster relief organization Team Rubicon to respond to emergencies in the US. Since 2017, IsraAID has worked in communities impacted by hurricanes in Florida, Texas, North Carolina, and Puerto Rico, and repeated wildfires in California.
Two months after a devastating typhoon, Israeli team members were finally able to enter the country, bringing experts to assist in the continuing relief work.
Two months after December’s Super Typhoon Odette (known internationally as Rai) that affected the lives of more than 10 million Filipinos and damaged or destroyed 1.9 million homes, 133,000 people are still displaced from their homes and children are still unable to go to school.
The Covid-19 situation initially made the Philippines off-limits to foreign visitors. So Israeli non-governmental humanitarian aid organization IsraAID assembled a team of three local volunteers, including former IsraAID staff members, to bring urgent aid to communities in need.

In first of several anticipated aid missions drawing on Israeli expertise, team from nonprofit IsraAID is in Eswatini formulating immunization rollout plan
A Tel Aviv-based nonprofit has launched the first of several missions to help poor countries build their COVID-19 vaccination program, drawing on Israel’s success.
A seven-member team from IsraAID landed in the small African state of Eswatini on Monday for a two-week visit. The delegation was invited by the government of the country, formerly known as Swaziland, which has vaccines in the pipeline and wanted help with logistics and public education ahead of the rollout.
“Israel’s vaccine success story has already reached here, and people really welcome and appreciate our effort,” Molly Bernstein, a member of the team, told The Times of Israel from Eswatini, expressing confidence that IsraAID will replicate her mission in other countries.
She said that work began minutes after the team landed on Monday afternoon, and has already involved visits to numerous health centers and meetings with health officials.
“We’re seeing exactly what the local health system looks like so we can leverage its capabilities to ensure the best possible vaccine rollout,” Bernstein said.
