so my favorite part of the pilot was when Alastor summons Husker. Because Husk immediately starts swearing at him about it, and insisting he isn't going to do anything. And instead of pulling on, oh, any part of their power dynamic, what Alastor does is TALK HIM INTO IT.
And like...
"You think you can bribe me with a wink and cheap booze? ... Well you can!"
it's not just how funny the line is. it's that "a wink" went on the list of bribes okay. "Alastor is asking" is an actual legitimate argument for Husk to change his mind on doing something he doesn't want to do.
and like. i do not think we have seen a single other soul-owner/soul-owned dynamic in the show where they talk to each other Like That, okay. can you imagine how Rosie would react if Alastor ever talked to her like that? OH WAIT YOU DONT NEED TO IMAGINE ITS TEXTUAL. can you imagine how Val would react if - right, those things are also textual. do you understand.
they're friends okay. Husker likes to talk shit about Alastor but they're friends. this is important
EDIT: he doesnt even say "bribe" he says "buy". this is even funnier and you know it
I want you all to know that De Robertis under Chi è questa che vèn quotes, amongst many biblical passages, Isaiah (63,1). Isaiah describing a handsome man (sic) coming forward in bright red clothes (<he's covered in blood) (<he's fresh from slaying rebels) (<he's angry).
As if that poem wasn't already freaky enough. Not only is the lady this unknown being that comes towards you while your mind cannot wrap itself around it, not only are you in a position of "I have no idea what's coming but it's coming towards me" and the only thing you know is you can't speak, but the being is also a terrible presence, like a fierce, angry (albeit beautiful) man drenched in blood who's just terminated those who opposed him. hello
Wait. Is there any point in the series where a woman is killed by the Death Note’s default heart attack. Because all the female victims I can think of have had specific circumstances written into their deaths. Mikami probably wrote down Halle Lidner’s name without additional details, but that didn’t actually work. He also wrote Takada’s name down and it didn’t work because Light had already killed her (though we don’t know if he added details to her death or not— somehow, though, the circumstances of her death didn’t tip him off that Light had already engineered her demise.) When characters kill women with the Death Note, it seems it always has to be in a specific way. This may be due to the underrepresentation of female criminals in the series, but I find it interesting.
claps hands together
going only by people in the manga for now here are all the female characters who die:
kiyomi
misa (possibly, not entirely canon, etc)
mikami's mom
naomi
rem
wedy
(fun fact half the characters on that list aren't even from the manga. there are so many from the live action films?? and the tv miniseries spinoff of the live action films???? damn i might need to watch those)
and you are right none of them die by heart attack! the manga does actually show how mikami attempted to kill kiyomi:
the first line reads, "kiyomi takada / suicide / burns to death by setting fire to everything around her including what she wrote / january 26th, 2:33 pm."
which is actually, truly, an insane coincidence. look at what light wrote
literally off by one minute. with the exact same phrasing. mikalight telepathy continues to claim victims (the victims were team kira)
but anyway! you are correct! where's the pronouns comic. HERE. "maybe i could look back at kira's previous behavior to see if there are any sexist patterns. perhaps kira is too misogynistic to consider women as 'real' criminals… <- no self-awareness that she already thinks that" will always kill me
Hmmmmmm.
Fellas is this relevant
headcanon: roman & romance.
roman doesn't experience romantic attraction often. so much of how he sees romance is tied up in intimacy and vulnerability, two things that he does not like in the slightest. i don't think it ever really occurs to him that that sort of thing is built upon with time and trust, they're not something that's expected from the outset.
he doesn't want someone in his space, demanding things from him that he feels that he should give even if he doesn't want to - physical/verbal affection, trust, etc.
if someone gets too close to him, the persona begins to break down a little. in public, he can be raunchy and make inappropriate jokes and flirt because he knows nothing can happen while other people are around. in private, that sort of thing could very well be misconstrued and he might end up in an incredibly uncomfortable situation - but without those jokes, the armour that persona provides, who he is really? it's better to just not put himself in that situation at all.
plus, there's the whole dating thing where you ask questions about each other and he doesn't really know who he is outside of youngest roy son but not the youngest sibling, coo, one-day ceo. that doesn't make for very interesting date material.
so while i think he's desperately lonely and wants a connection with someone, it's not something that he's easily going to seek out.
post-canon (and after some amount of therapy), it's a little different. he doesn't cling to this persona so much, he's able to be a little more authentic, and the thought of talking openly about himself no longer makes him want to claw his skin off (as much). very slowly, he warms to the idea of dating.
if he ever gets into a relationship, he's surprisingly caring and chivalrous (opening doors, taking their coat, rubbing their feet if they've had a long day). he sends flowers and texts little "this made me think of you" messages. it takes him a long to accept it if anyone tries to do the same for him, but he gets there and begins to believe that maybe people do genuinely care about him and want to do nice things for him just because they can, it's not always transactional.
sometimes he feels so out of his depth, but he's trying and that's what's important.
also, he begins to explore dating with men as well, and he finds that he likes it (and maybe the word bisexual isn't as dirty as he'd been raised to think it was).
ps his (receiving) love language is absolutely words of affirmation. i think he probably gives quality time more easily.
How do I tell my boss that the reason I'm like a zombie at work is because I stayed up late crafting the ultimate playlist that is: songs sexy nun Dan would catwalk and/or strip to.
