Last thoughts on the Top Gear debacle

So yeah, not surprised, a little sad at losing a show I love, but being philosophical about it. It couldn’t have gone on forever, and sacking Clarkson was the only choice the BBC had.

But something that does please me is that, as a long-standing fan of Top Gear, I was seeing Clarkson setting himself up as a martyr to that bastardised version of FWEEE SPEEEFF that people evoke when they want to be filthily bigoted without repercussions. He’d been given warning after warning and seemed to take a positive delight in throwing it in people’s face ‘I can say this and you, little people, can’t do anything. BEHOLD MY PRIVILEGE IT IS GREAT AND MIGHTY’

I really think he was angling to get sacked over some racist comment, and he able to go out in a shower of glory fighting the ‘PC Police’ and being a hero to the UKIP thugs and people with eight brain cells apiece.

Instead, he got sacked for being a thug himself, and now has to answer to the police. Very few people are on his side for that.
