If you’re a person who spends hours in front of the computer and you see those “10 minute workouts for writers/artists/lazy people/whatever”, and they include push ups or other exercises that put a strain on your shoulders, and especially if you don’t work out and haven’t done it in ages:
Don’t do it.
There are better ways to exercise in 10 minutes. Unless you’re going to actually spend other 10 mins. at least warming up, don’t do those workouts. I know they mean to help, but chances are they’re made by people who don’t work out regularly and you’ll probably end up injured.
Take it from someone with a chronic shoulder injury. I know what I’m talking about.
A better alternative is some gentle yoga. A few sun salutations should be the best option. I mean, those 10 minute work outs are made to help you stretch your muscles, not burn any real calories or tone your muscles or anything. If you want to do those things, you need to spend more time working out (no, there’s no easy way to cheat), and always include warm ups and cool downs.
Sitting in front of the computer actually strains your back and shoulders a lot. More than you can imagine. Exercising right after spending hours sitting down makes your body extra vulnerable to injuries (believe it or not), so warm ups should be even longer if you don’t want to get injured.
I mean, you can do whatever you want with your body, of course, but I really don’t recommend any workouts you find on Tumblr. I have never seen one that isn’t ridiculously difficult, especially for people who don’t exercise regularly, and that would make you injured easily. There are better alternatives if you need to stretch or if you want to burn some calories.
