I hate it when people make jokes about Neil 'I don't swing' Josten.

This has really come to my attention when looking at memes and fanfics within the fandom.

If I remember correctly it was confirmed he was demisexual by Nora, if not the point I make is still important. By making jokes about how Neil is just gay for Andrew or in denial all along even in subtle ways, you erase his identity/sexuality.

No he isn't gay and no he didn't just have to wait for the right person.

Neil is demisexual, doesn't feel sexual attraction unless he has a deep emotional bond with someone first.

It's not some phase and the like and jokes like this can actually be pretty harmful (even if unintentionally) to people who already don't feel valid within the ace/lgbtqia+ community.

At least that's my hot take on the community and it's memes. I don't mean to attack anyone in particular, just wish that others keep in mind these jokes can really give the wrong message.

You might think I'm overreacting, but you'll never know how something so small can just make someone feel like garbage.

We don't erase or fetishize certain sexualities here. Just the way Andrew isn't your gay baby, Neil isn't your Andrew sexual late bloomer. Keep that in mind when writing about these characters, as much as I love all the quirky memes.
