on a rainy night, ziyu, on his way back from work, finds an injured guy in a cardboard box near his apartment. at first, he's about to just walk past and ignore him, but he feels bad for the guy since he's all bruised up and wet. although he knows he should mind his own business and just go home, ziyu can't stop that nagging voice in the back of his mind telling him to 'help.' so, he decides to bring the man up to his place to treat his wounds since it's too late in the night and all the clinics nearby are closed.

the guy refuses to tell ziyu what happened to him but ziyu decides to let him stay the night -- just the one night and he'd have to be out the next morning.

when ziyu wakes up the next morning to the delicious smell of breakfast (he hadn't had a home cooked meal in how long? ), he can't bring himself to tell the guy to get out - not after he cooked for him. so before ziyu heads out to work, he gives the man his apartment key and tells him to leave it in the mailbox on his way out. he assumes the man would get the hint and be gone by the time he gets back in the evening.

but things are never simple for ziyu so when he gets back home, super late again after working overtime and starved, he opens the door of his apartment to an amazing aroma wafting over - the man (whose name he still didn't know) was still there and to his surprise, his apartment was spick and span and dinner was all laid out on the table.

this goes on for some days, but ziyu, finally unable to go along with this anymore, puts his foot down and tells the man - who he now knows is named tian xuning - he has to leave. his injuries are healed and he's a sprightly young man, there's no reason for him to be cooped up in this apartment. but tian xuning insists that he has nowhere to go and begs ziyu to let him stay, saying he'd continue cooking and cleaning for him. when ziyu tells him that he feels uncomfortable having a stranger in his house, a man he barely knows, tian xuning comes up with a wild proposal: ziyu can just treat him like a pet- like a stray dog he took in.

ziyu of course is against the absurd idea at first, but tian xuning somehow manages to convolutedly coerce him into letting him stay as his new puppy. he insists he "won't be a nuisance if ziyu just thinks of him as a dog to come home to." despite the strange arrangement, ziyu slowly grows accustomed to this new lifestyle with this man as ..his dog...

tian xuning is good at cleaning and cooking and surprisingly makes a really good pet as well. and when he cuddles ziyu after a long day at work, ziyu forgets all his worries and troubles and truly feels safe and sound.

this unexpected man slowly starts melting ziyu's lonesome heart...
