I don't understand rice cooking methods. My mother has a complicated technique that involves bringing the water and rice to boil in the pot and then turning the heat off and putting the lid on and coming back in forty minutes to stir the moisture out, whatever that means. This is only slightly less confusing to me than the existence of rice cookers as a separate kitchen appliance. I just boil some water on the stove and put rice in it and stir until the water's gone. It's the same way I make oatmeal. I add stuff when I want to, like bullion or onions or various seasonings, but it's just. Water. Rice. Stove. Stir. What's going on out there in the wide world of rice cooking methods with seventeen steps. I'm lost.
