Another moment of AoS subverting expectations is in 1x22, "Beginning of the End", where they show that after everything Fury and Coulson have done to Garrett, he's still alive
Like he literally crawls out of a box, covered in burns head to toe, manages to make it onto the super soldier armor thingy, screams out in pain while his whole body is reformed, starts doing the whole "now, I'll be unstoppable 😈" thing
Only to be cut off as Coulson blasts him to pieces and walks off with a nonchalant "hey guys I found the laser gun!"
