As you can see by my regular Instagram feed, the downside of being the photographer friend who lives far away from everybody else is that there’s no one to shoot my own costumes. It felt amazing to finally find the time to do a proper shoot (all for myself!) to highlight the months of work I put into this gown! 🕷🕸🧡 Meet Miss Web! 💜🕸🕷 This dress' story began when I was working at @bobinetextile and spotted this amazing glow in the dark spiderweb fabric! Then I started playing with the idea of using modern prints for a historical dress. I really wanted to make a Robe à L'Italienne like in the @americanduchess book and well, here we are! Most of this gown is hand-stitched with a needle and thread, using the construction techniques of the 18th century! To say that I am proud of this one is an understatement! Confession, my sewing motivation right now is nowhere to be found, so for the sake of completing my aesthetic row, enjoy this picture of the @americanduchess pattern I'm using to make this dress 😂 Also, just so we’re clear, the sewing mojo left because the 3D modeling craze took its place temporarily. I've always enjoyed 3D modeling and programming, and right now I'm trying to learn about particle hair physics. Laying out the bodice.... plaid matching is tedious and time consuming, but the end result is worth the trouble. As s side note the inspiration gown’s creator didn’t seem worried with this and it still turned out beautifully. I am way too OCD to skip this step. 🤪
