Ed startled, accidentally hitting himself in the mouth and cutting his lip in the process. He hadn’t been aware of any “unhappy face,” he had been very busy staring off into the distance. Sidelined for the time being due to an injury (whose severity had been greatly exaggerated), it had been a long day of mind-numbing paperwork. He was honestly starting to feel a little more empathy towards Mustang’s procrastination. It would take at least eight hours to reset his brain after all that.
“Nothing ‘unhappy,’” Edward said. “More like I was just about to fall asleep right here.”
“Ah, look at you. What a mess.” Ignoring all boundaries, the Colonel quite simply reached over and wiped his thumb over the cut on his protégé’s lip. His hand ungloved, he gazed down upon the faint red plasma collected on his digit before merely rubbing it off against his index finger.
With a perhaps overdramatic sigh, as though he had been carrying the weight of the whole state on his shoulders rather than blatantly ignoring the piling papers at his desk, he walked back to his chair across the room.
“If you keep injuring yourself so easily, you’ll never leave this room. Take it from the expert here.”
