FINAL POST
In the last week coming up to the presentation of our multimodal presentation, my main goal was to finish up talking about our debate and why more money should be put into the research of equipment and information rather than all of the money put into what concussions are and what its long term effects are. Of course this information is extremely important, but with all the money currently being invested in the science of concussions and their effects down the road, not enough seems to be done on the prevention of concussions. If the NFL took some of the 100 million dollars they’ve put towards concussion research and put it towards concussion prevention, a larger amount of concussions could be prevented in the first place. I also talked about why informing athletes of the danger they’re putting themselves in before they participate, the athletes will hopefully keep these facts in mind and play the game with more consciousness of their body. The last thing I did was really just beautify the website. One thing I noticed was how easy it was for everyone’s page to have a little different style throwing off the authenticity of the site as a whole. By making everyone’s page similar, the fluidity of our website was pleasing and easy to follow. Overall I didn’t expect this argument to be very hard, but actually coming up with arguments for why everything currently being done for concussions isn’t enough was hard. Concussions are such a confusing topic because it is technically still in the air if concussions are real and if they do cause brain degeneration, so investing in anything other than research is a tough argument to make. I hope the ideas and topic are valid enough to convince our class that more needs to be done to protects athletes now and in the future.
