That art you reblogged of a sparrow/house cat gryphon made me think about Stan as a house gryphon. Tiny creature who looks so cool, but also has one extra set of limbs hes not sure how to use. I can just image him post-reveal trying to flap them for balance or just to whack someone, forgetting that human Stan has no wings

I feel like the obvious bird choice for Stan is a raven, or mayhaps a magpie, with house cat legs and tail. Ford finds the coolest pet in the woods, and comes to the conclusion it either got injured or never learned how to properly fly, and thus begins the worst few weeks of Stan's life as Ford chucks him into the air to try and encourage him to use his wings. Stan got through life as a tiny gryphon by holding his wings tight to his body, so he has to learn to actually use them or risk breaking his tiny limbs whenever Ford tosses him.
Then he gets very used to using his wings as small blunt weapons to smack everyone who displeases him, and Ford buys ultra sturdy coats so his little buddy can clamber up his shoulder and not claw his skin off. This leads to Ford saying anything mildly annoying or blunt and then receiving a wing to the face for his troubles.
You're absolutely correct that Stan gets so used to having six limbs he has no idea how to catch himself with human arms anymore. He manages to get the swing of walking on two legs, but whenever he looses his balance or trips he just sort of falls over, as he's trying to use limbs he doesn't have anymore. Then Ford says something annoying and Stan huffs, before remembering that thinking of hitting Ford when he doesn't have the wings for it does nothing, making his mood sour, even though being tiny sucked.
Now I'm just thinking about tiny gryphon Stan purring while also preening Fords hair. Ford holding Stan and preening his feathers for him, while Stan melts into him, purring and making biscuits. Stan mimicking Ford voice calling for Fiddleford to make the man go in circles around the house. Stan mimicking Fiddleford voice telling Ford to give him things and Ford not thinking twice about it. Stan mimicking Fiddleford to his face in a mocking manner. I could go on.
