The person is finishing up their evening walk. Golly gee walking really does work off excess insulin, and is a great way to gain endorphins! they think to themselves. they see something in the corner of their peripheral. They whip their head around. nothing. they continue with their walk this time at a little brisker of a pace. they are about 200 meters from their house when they hear something. cronch. they spin around, but see nothing but the swirling fall leaves. their heart skips a beat. it... it couldn’t be. they had vanquished that monstrosity years ago. and yet... they hear it again, this time closer, and to their immediate left. Cronch. they nearly break out in a run, before they think better of it. the creature isn’t there - they made sure of it - however something is pulling at their mind, begging for attention. they walk past the field. 175 meters to go. they hear a rustle from the long corn stalks. they jump back a couple feet, and put their hand around the familiar yet distant handle of their specially made handgun, designed for this very moment. they hear quick footsteps from inside the crop. they estimate 5 seconds before it arrives. 5... oh my god. 4... is this where I die? 3... my family- 2... one way or another- 1... this is it. the lithe form bursts out of the foliage towards the person. they almost fire, until they realize that in fact, it is simply a cat. they sigh with relief, and crouch down. “hey little guy,” they croon “you gave me quite a shock there!” the cat looks up at them expectantly with yellow eyes. “who do you belong to?” says the person. “you look quite hungry.” the cat looks up, “I AM” hisses the cat. the cat slowly raises on its hind legs, standing, folding outwards until It reaches a good four feet taller than the person. the fur slides off, revealing slick yellow and white dappled scales, long limbs ended in foot long talons, and a gaping maw that stretches down half its torso, before disappearing into a husky silken kilt. “IT’S BEEN TOO LONG OLD FRIEND” growls the corn demon. “and you.” says the person with shaky breath, before firing three successive shots into the creatures torso. they smell the familiar scent of corn juice.”if only I was that weak now.” the monstrosity makes a sweeping gesture with its hand, and the field of corn flies rustles briefly. for a moment nothing seems to happen, but then they see it. thousands of slightly smaller corn demons rising out of the earth, sounding as the sounds of its weaker brethren the corn ears being eaten. CRONCH. the rising din of hundreds of thousands of rapidly consumed corn is nearly too much for the person. then as abruptly as it started, it ends. “we will be back later.” says the corn demon. “OUT MY FRIENDS. FEAST UPON THE DENIZENS OF THE EARTH, AS THEY DID TO US!!!” the corn beasts rush out, and there is the sound of a couple rapid screams, and then nothing. “you MOTHERFU-” the corn demon swipes a clawed hand out, almost lazily, lopping the persons head off their shoulders. “What a waste...” the corn demon says almost sadly. the corn demon speaks over a radio hidden in its wrist. “Hello, this is kernel corn reporting for duty...”
