Hey this blog is great! I am a steinhardt string performance freshman and I want to transfer to stern. I applied to both stern and steinhardt in my common app application. I've wanted to be in stern since day one so im going to try and internally transfer for fall 2015. I took a bunch of stern cores this semester and next semester im taking intro to micro, Statistics for Business Control & Regression/Forecasting Models, and alg & calc. I have a 3.7 now. Do you think it will be impossible?
PT2 of the question i just submitted about the Steinhardt to Stern internal transfer. I’m not sure if i should wait an extra semester so i can take calc 1 before I apply. I know they like math but the prereq for calc 1 is alg and calc so i have to wait until fall to do be in calc. I’ll do it in the summer if that’ll increase my chances. I dont think they’ll see that though. Also, would it be better if I go into LSP so i can go into CAS econ? maybe trying to transfer from CAS ecn would be better?
Hi there! Thank you! :)
It’s definitely not impossible to internally transfer into Stern, it’s just difficult as their retention rate is quite high. But, by having a high GPA and taking Stern classes already, you’re putting yourself in a good position.
Keep in mind that, if you apply for an internal transfer are denied or if you complete an internal transfer, you have to wait an academic year before you apply again. So when you’re planning on where you want to transfer, just think about the rules and how you’ll complete your degree in the time you want to spend at NYU. Other than that, it’s totally up to you as for how you go about applying to transfer. I’d also really suggest talking to an adviser in Steinhardt or Stern about transferring, as they can give you some insight as for what classes to take to get yourself ready and give yourself the best chance of being accepted. When I was applying to transfer to Gallatin, I spoke a lot with my adviser in LSP and the transfer adviser in Gallatin and they helped a lot with answering my questions and helping me figure out which was the best path for me.
Also, finally, my roommate freshman year was a CAS Econ major and applied to transfer to Stern with a 4.0 GPA and didn’t get in, so your major really doesn’t mean everything.
