The Alba Experience In Westgate #AlbaxEmified
What’s classic will always stay timeless. When one desires good Spanish food, Alba is the answer. It has been in the food industry for decades and it’s easy to see why.
Even with just 4 branches across Metro Manila, Alba has dominated the field of Spanish cuisine in the Philippines. It is no secret on why that is so. The food, ambience, and service is unlike any other. Every guest will be treated like a VIP in a 5-star hotel.
I visited Alba’s smallest branch, located in Westgate, Muntinlupa, for lunch. Their marketing manager, Ms. Cachelle Guiao de Alba, personally accommodated and accompanied my blogger group so that we can experience the finest of what Alba can offer.
Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful table setting. It is also highly evident that the Westgate branch’s biggest problem is their spacing. There is little space for walking and it would be difficult if the place is packed (which usually is).
Appetizers
Salchichas con Champignon - P250
I had a terrible experience when I ate chorizo in another Spanish restaurant but Alba redeemed the concept of chorizo. I was surprised on how juicy and light Alba’s was. I am not a fan of mushrooms (anyone close to me can attest to this fact) but pairing it with Alba’s homemade chorizo changed my preference.
Brandada de Bacalao - P350
Potatoes and Bacalao fish were squashed together to create these bite-sized balls. It was so good that I didn’t need to resort to the tomato sauce that accompanied the dish. I loved how the balls were rough in the outside yet smooth in the inside.
Gambas al Ajillo - P370
Gambas? Finally, a word that I can understand from their menu. Jk!! I loved how mild the spice was; it wasn’t overwhelming nor underwhelming. The shrimps were freshly and perfectly cooked, meaning it wasn’t hard to chew. A lot of restaurants mess up when it comes to their shrimps but Alba didn’t.
Jamon con arugula y manga - P400
Cured ham and mango?? The combination was surprisingly pleasant. Truthfully speaking, these ingredients when combined might scare anybody but the experience was refreshing actually. The sweetness of the mango enhanced the ham. This appetizer was served with mango balls coated with parmesan cheese.
Main
Salpicao de Solomillo - P590
Alba is the pioneer of Salpicao in the Philippines. Many have followed and copied but Alba’s salpicao was exemplary. The meat was medium-rare and topped with a generous serving of garlic while their mashed potato was creamy and smooth. You’ll definitely don’t want to share this dish with anyone.
Prawns Thermidor - P600
If you want to impress someone, this is the dish that you have to order. Alba was very generous when it came to the cheese because the prawns were practically drowning in it. The prawn size was above average. My only issue with this dish was the fact that you’ll only get 4 servings. *cries*
Lengua Sevillana - P500
Ox tongue is a delicacy that I truly appreciate and enjoy. I know many would be hesitant to give it a try. If you’re a first-timer, have a taste of Alba’s version and you’ll definitely be hooked. The tongue was soft and tender to the point I could imagine it melting in my mouth.
Callos a la Madrileña - P420
Ox tripe in a rich tomato sauce would guarantee to give you a ‘kilig’ feeling. Usually, tripes would be tough to chew but Alba’s version were easy on the jaws.
Paellas
Paella Valenciana - P580
Their Paella Valenciana’s toppings were certainly plenty. The rice itself was seasoned to perfection; not one grain was left forgotten. Toppings include mussel, shrimp, chorizo, eggs and peas.
Paella con setas y pesto - P550
Vegetarians would rejoice because Alba also offers a veggie paella. Despite packed with veggies that I know most kids won’t eat (wink wink), it was actually very kid-friendly. The pesto sauce gave it a creamy twist.
Desserts
Canonigo - P150
Some may argue that it’s Brazo de Mercedes but Alba would beg to disagree. Just a bite and you’ll imagine you’re eating the clouds because of its softness. Don’t be overwhelmed with its big serving because it won’t be enough! End your Alba experience with this dessert.
Tower of chocolate - P190
Enjoy various layers of chocolate that’ll guarantee to put you in a journey of texture, taste and delight. You’ll get 4 bite-sized pieces when you order this dessert.
