What is a word you feel that too many people use?
Honestly, I think the word “literally” has been stretched so far beyond its original meaning that it’s practically doing yoga at this point. It used to mean exactly as stated (“I literally ran five miles”), but now it’s used for emphasis even when the statement is obviously figurative (“I was literally dying of laughter”). It’s not that the figurative use is “wrong” — language evolves — but…
