I find comparisons between Pilates and yoga frustrating since the first is a modern, physical form of specific exercises - obviously based on the underlying physiological aspects of yoga (that may or may not be understood by a yoga teacher or student). But physical posture / asana or the "exercise" portion of yoga is only one teeny tiny aspect of a massive, ancient lifestyle philosophy that is concerned with a healthy mind and spirit. It incorporates values, ethics, health & healing, human psychology, diet.... indeed none of us could live long enough to cover or understand it all with the depth it deserves. I've been to Pilates classes that reminded me of 80s style church hall keep fit classes (!) but every class is different just as every yoga class is different depending on teacher, experience or style. The idea that physical yoga is more about "stretching" and Pilates about "strength" is totally misguided since physiologically, yoga at least is concerned with both. If practised and taught correctly it is the "perfect workout" since it includes strength, resistence, short bursts of intensity, muscle lengthening, "core" work, flexibility and mobility exercises all while encouraging a sense of relaxation and mindfulness. #whatyogais #yoga #yogaeverywhere #yogaeveryday #yogaeverydamnday #loveyoga #yogalife #healthylife #meditation #livelifelove #justbe #justdoyourbest #tapas #aparigraha #whatido #itsnotaboutthepose #yogasana #lifestyle #myyoga #itsnotfitnessitslife (at Yogasphere at One Mile, Port Stephens)
