I remember an amazing opportunity our church choir had to sing with a world renown opera trio at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit. In my enthusiasm, I shared the experience with people I worked with at the time. I couldn't believe it! I was so excited and honored to be part of the group. Do you know what I heard?
Someone came up to me a few weeks later and said they had heard I sang with them. I smiled and said yes we did. He said, "Yeah I heard it was "ONLY. ONE. SONG".
I learned something that day.
Haters are gonna hate. It can come in a variety of passive aggressive ways too. One key way is minimizing or downplaying your accomplishments. "Oh, that's not such a big deal". "Well it's only a small part in the play". Oh! She only got promoted to supervisor". Or here's one.... "They were proud of all of our accomplishments". Yup! Anything to not acknowledge your contribution or accomplishments.
The thing is...
People can try to squash you, minimize you or trivialize you but they can't. Their efforts are about as useless as failing to acknowledge the brightness and heat of the sun.
Yeah.. Haters are gonna hate and people throw shade. But that doesn't really matter does it? What God put in you can’t help but shine through you.
Be what you're created by God to be. Don't fret and don't hide Babe. Shine!
