A lovely and interesting exploration of Wintrow’s feelings regarding gender and her experience as a priest of Sa in training. Also featuring Althea/Athel and everyone’s favourite go-to expert on gender, Amber 🧡
Thank you for this brilliant work @asolrock , it’s always a joy to have you take part in Winterfest!!
Books: The Liveship Traders
Rating: Not Rated
Characters: Wintrow Vestrit, Amber, Althea Vestrit
Summary: The first day there, Wintrow runs into a shock because Althea is in town, only not-quite-Althea, because this is a young man in a bar with his crewmates. It is, just as clearly, also Althea.
Excerpt:
Wintrow blinks at her.
“I thought I saw a young man that looked like you and his crewmates,” he says, and Althea laughs, bright and startled.
“You did! But you see, Athel’s caused a bit of confusion for some.”
“What’s confusing?” Wintrow asks.
“That he’s a boy. That he’s still me,” Althea says.
Wintrow thinks about it. “I didn’t know it could be like that,” Wintrow says finally. “Uh– both. But there were priests before who were– born differently than they presented,” he settles on. It’s not as though the priests exactly had genders at all, as they were all equal under Sa. But he left the priesthood, and he was a man now. He was. Everyone tried to tell him so.
