Sugar Cookies and Times Long Past [AU] ~ iuvenes-flos

A little girl lay on a soft bed, covers pulled up to her chin, angelic blonde hair spread across lavender pillows.  Outside, a car engine roared, and she frowned in her sleep, rubbing her eyes and making soft noises as she was pulled from dreamland.

"Uh..."  Yuzu groaned as her eyes fluttered open, blinking in the light filtering through her half-open blinds.  "Mama?" the four-year-old said sleepily as she sat up and clumsily slid off the bed, rubbing sleep from her eyes.  She opened the bedroom door and half-stumbled out of the bedroom and down the hall, clutching the railing as she made her way down steps meant for people bigger than her.

Pots and pans clattered in the kitchen, a sure sign of domestic activity, and the little girl walked into the living room and caught sight of a light-haired figure moving around the kitchen.  "Mama!" she called with a sleepy whine and ran towards the woman, arms out, almost tripping on the edge of the carpet.
