Okay quick MDZS fandom history lesson cause I've seen like 3 people mention the same thing the last few days and it makes it clear folks have no idea what happened in the past.
So. Jiang Cheng antis used to post to the #jiang cheng tag. This was an obnoxious thing to do, and it made a lot of people angry. Therefore, a lot of angry Jiang Cheng fans mounted a campaign to try to get the antis to start using their own tag.
As a result, a prominent anti (ladyfenix? Something like that. We are mutually blocked so I can't check and tbh don't want to) came up with what they thought was a hilarious "gotcha" - they made a tag! All the antis agreed on it! They used it consistently! This was all good. The bad was: that tag was #canon jiang cheng. Hahaha very funny guys. This to me was the equivalent of Trump fans thinking "Let's Go Brandon" was an amazing own. As in: immature and dumb. But it made them happy, and they used it consistently, and it was easy to blacklist, so really no harm no foul. It worked fine, and everyone was happy.
Then last year, the first wave of Twitter refugees arrived on Tumblr in November. They saw the #canon jiang cheng tag being used for anti nonsense and got Big Mad, so Twitter Jiang Cheng fans launched a campaign to "reclaim" the tag, most out of ignorance, a few over the explicit "would you please just leave this alone, everything was fine before" of the mdzs fans already on Tumblr.
Now, a year later, I'm seeing multiple people going WhY iS tHe CaNoN jIaNg ChEnG tAg FuLl Of AnTiS?"
It's because it's an anti tag.
It was explicitly popularized as an anti tag.
Most of the old guard of MDZS tumblr fandom have it blacklisted because it's an anti tag.
I used to go into it so routinely and block everyone that the tag is literally broken for me, Tumblr won't even show me posts in it even now that it's not just anti stuff.
I'm not saying we should go back to the old way. It's way too late for that. But I saw people wondering why.
This is why. Now you know. They made a tag for anti crap (as they were asked to do!) And used it consistently and accurately (as they were asked to do!) And they understandably don't want to give it up.
We truly could just let them have their dumb Let's Go Brandon tag. It'd make everything a lot more peaceful. But whatever, yall do you.
