lincoln closed his eyes. she had no idea how dangerous the underside would be for her. he was apart of that world and it had nearly killed him countless times. he had been prepared to break her heart when he arrived. a decision he hadn’t taken lightly for the amount of time they’d known each other. but she had surprised him. she always was able to surprise him. she may not understand his world but natasha understood the danger. a human would always be in danger with someone like him. if the intense nights of a full moon wouldn’t be the reason she’d be put in danger then it would have been the way his world was governed. each little thing lincoln did wrong could easily backfire on her. he’d seen it before. past lovers who he’d been so drawn to being hurt because of the choice he made.
when he had opened his eyes again, he was looking at her. his hand raised absent-mindedly to run his fingertips against her face to tuck a strain of red hair behind her ear. he didn’t want her to get hurt, and he wouldn’t insult her by saying she couldn’t handle herself. even against those in the underside, she could be resourceful. but, as he rested his hand against her throat and traced the soft curve of it with his thumb, he released just how fragile she could be in his hands. how much he was holding back with just his thumb. he could turn her. one bite to his wrist and his blood in her mouth and she’d be as strong as him. it was something he wanted but knew this life would never be something she could conform to easily.
the thought died as it always did. a few seconds on the mind and then it had faded. instead he stepped closer and kept his gaze on her own eyes, leaning in to softly kiss her lips and taste her on his own. a slow and innocent kiss that broke in a few short seconds. he pulled away and sighed. ❛ i’d blame myself, mon cœur. ❜
NATASHA KNEW SOMETHING WAS GOING ON with Lincoln. he had to leave, he needed some time for himself to figure out what he wanted. she didn’t want him to leave, she wanted to go with him, wanted to be the anchor to keep him down when he needed it, the shoulder to lean on. SHE KNEW SHE COULD HANDLE HIM, she knew he wouldn’t hurt her, but he wasn’t quiet convinced about his own powers yet, he still thinks that he might hurt her.
FEELING HIS GENTLE TOUCH ON HER THROAT, one thought ran through her mind. HE COULD KILL HER. one easy movement & he was done with her. but he didn’t, he never hurt her before so why would he do now ? she trusted him, that was already a big step for the widow. she needed so much time to trust someone, but she knew she could trust him, she hopes he knows how she feels.
LOOKING INTO HIS EYES she still saw the doubts & sorrow in them, her hand reaching up to gently lay it against his cheek. emerald eyes looking into his eyes when he stepped closer, her hands holding his face when she kissed him back, he ended the kiss way too early for her liking, his voice making her throat tighten ❛ don’t do it, Linc. don’t blame yourself. you have to do that. just let me come with you . . ❜ she whispered looking into his eyes. he couldn’t carry that burden all alone, she knew she was able to take some of the weight.
