After so many rewatches of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, I had an epiphany.

It's impossible that Frollo never lusted after a woman aside from Esmeralda. Plus, in the Feast of Fools scene, him saying "Look at that disgusting display" implies he actually looks down on women who arouse his lust or who are outwardly sexual. So why is he so obsessed with Esme?

Him wanting Esmeralda to himself never was about her looks or her body, though her attractiveness still plays a role. It's about domination. He is an egotistical, self-righteous, privileged and powerful old man, and being publicly opposed by someone he looks down on, a brown woman from a lower social class, is a big slap to his fragile male ego. And it doesn't help that he gets a raging boner from the way she looks.

Easy, it's because she's probably the only woman who ever defied him so outwardly.

I think it's poetic justice how an oppressive male authority gets his career, reputation, and ultimately himself set aflame, all because a woman hurt his ego by deciding to answer back.

So, if you're an underprivileged woman and you see a Claude Frollo in your life: Answer. The. Fuck. Back. Watch him destroy himself because of his lust for domination and control.

"International Men's Day" is searched on Google at least three times as much in March than it is in November (when is actually International Men's Day). Literal and graphic proof that they don't really care at all about having a "men's day", they just can't stand that something isn't about them.
