What did it mean? To feel this intensely for someone else? For time and deed to hold no meaning? For her to know as certainly as she knew her name that it didn’t matter what he did or how long had passed since she had last seen him. That it could be an hour or a year or ten! That the thing that was between them, the feeling that pulsed through them, would still be as immediate and essential as it always was. For the people living their normal lives outside her window it probably meant a pretty happy life. Marriage? A family? But that was not what it meant for her. In Buffy’s world, it meant that she could never have him. That anyone she could have would inevitably feel like less. Like loss.
