LiS: DE Chapter 1ish Thoughts

I've not finished the chapter yet, as I have to keep taking breaks to process shit.

First off, I'm going to keep SOME hope for a possible Pricefield endgame. I can't fathom that SQUARE ENIX would let DontNod sink such a thing, even given their 'views' on being known as 'the gay game' at times. Pricefield made them MONEY, and on top of that, fucking proper recognition in an era where such a thing meant shit.

Second off, since I went with Bae over Bay, goddamn, does Max's journal hit hard as shit. The third page, with her spiraling over Chloe....and then the second to last, with that same sort of breakdown. I'm HOPING that more of that gets explored, and THAT is kind of what has me hopeful, in a crude way. Seeing some of Max's reactions in general, I mean, DN could have a Big Shell Simulation on their hands here, with whatever plot is going up, to try and trigger Max's powers by some unknown party for actual reasons.

Also, while yes, New England Weather be like that, the idea of Max wearing a beanie because of Chloe just fuels the fire in my head of her forever burning that torch, so here's hoping I can keep that up without being forced to romance the cute bartender girl, because she's cute, but she's not Chloe Price.

In which Ix grumbles about the Hellsite

Ok, but for serious, Tumblr. I've been HATING using the website version for years, because of a 'Best Stuff FIrst' thing that has been repeating the same posts for a year now, and it's not the first thing explained when you go into settings?

Goddamn though, this feels a million times better.

Ix Rambles: The Saints Row Fandom

So, for those that don’t know me personally (Which is most of you, and I don’t blame you in the slightest), one of my biggest fandoms is Saints Row. The feeling of freedom, of community, and the fact that, from the second game onward, the developers had the ability to let their players make more or less ANYONE they wanted, was always what helped push the series above the rest, and that’s not even getting into the cast of characters. The sheer amount of love that this fandom has for a cast of gangbangers, outcasts, and the like, will never cease to amaze me. But then we get to the dark side of the fandom, the side I personally can’t stand.

There is a distinct sense of absolute entitlement to some in the fandom that absolutely infuriates and sickens me. This is probably, in part, due to me following Volition’s Youtube account, but the amount of comments I see from ‘die-hard’ fans who want nothing more then the series to ‘go back’ to the SR2 era makes me want to track these folks down and open up a septic truck on their faces.

I think my biggest issue, is that people over the web complain, without knowing the history or goings-on of Volition and THQ during the creation of The Third, that required such shifts in tone, and so they belittle both the games themselves, and those that like them. Suggesting that the events of 3, 4, and GoOH should be written off, not only comes off as a slap to the face to fans of the later games, but also as a slap to the face to Volition themselves.

Am I saying that the later games are perfect and should be defended at all costs? No, they have their flaws, but those flaws are just as much part of the series as SR1 and 2′s flaws, and I feel that putting SR2 on some sort of sacred pedestal of ‘when Saints Row was ‘good.’ comes off as not only belittling the series, but not having an idea of what the series truly was to begin with. 

That’s not saying I wouldn’t want a remastered SR2, because damn would I, but honestly, it we did get that, I don’t think it would help. I know I’d be absolutely lost at the controls at this point, because 3 and 4 had far better controls, that 2′s would feel absolutely ancient in comparison.

Plus, I’d miss Kinzie. Best SR girl aside from The Boss. Fight me if you think otherwise.

Ix Rants: Castlevania and the new fandom

So, I’m bound to get shit for this, and I probably deserve at least some of this on sheer account of me bitching over new life in the fandom. As much as I love the new Castlevania series, and Death help me I do, I lowkey hate some of the new fandom that’s arisen (Pun not intended, but Hah.) out of it. I mean, I understand to an immense degree that, to a degree, shippers gonna ship, and especially given the themes of Castlevania, and what it borrows from to begin with, that odd pairings and other such things are going to come forth. But in all honesty, I just foam at the mouth a little bit, every time I see someone posting about how Sypha “HAS to be a lesbian” or that “Trevor and Alucard are CLEARLY GAY for one another”. I mean, for one: Trevor and Alucard fought for all of three minutes tops, and then the series cuts to a movie poster shot of the three gearing up to continue the adventure in season 2, so it’s an amazing stretch to start with. More importantly though, and I know this might seem like a stretch to some people, but the series is, without a shadow of a doubt, adapting Castlevania III. The same Castlevania III that ends with Trevor and Sypha falling in love, Sypha laying down the law after Trevor gets his ass handed to him by Isaac in Curse of Darkness, and then eventually continuing the next branch of Belmonts. The same Castlevania III that ends with Alucard, overcome with remorse for helping to slay his father, despite knowing it was for the betterment of mankind and, in a way, aiding his mother’s final wish, sealing himself in what was intended to be an eternal sleep, at least until Symphony of the Night comes around. While they are certainly EXPANDING the setting, they’re still clearly going to stick to what is already established. And I know, I know, I’m sorry for A: sounding like an old man bitter about new things (TM), and B: probably coming off as a gigantic jackass, but when all I see whenever I check the Castlevania tag is stuff for the new series, I almost cringe....if only because it almost burns me out sometimes on some of the content that I should be seeing over the series in general. And now, if you’ve actually read though all this, thank you, for putting up with a jackass’s ramblings about a nearly dead video game series getting some proper content, simply because he wishes some of the new fans would do some homework.  Fuck, now I know how some comicbook fans feel.

Back from Suicide Squad (Minor spoilers)

As me and @Hispersephone have agreed, it should have been called “The Deadshot and Harley Quinn Power Hours, guest starring The Suicide Squad, with guest appearance by The Joker.

First half of the film was ALL over the place, but once things started to line up, it got REALLY good. Harley was nigh flawless, with the missing accent being the only minor flaw, and even that wasn’t half bad.

Shockingly enough, Leto’s Joker wasn’t nearly as bad as I was fearing. He wasn’t nearly as obnoxious as I expected, and while the ‘birth’ of Harley was near classic Joker style, the entire rest of the film with him and Harley ACTUALLY was surprisingly well handled. There was no lashing out towards Harley for getting in the situation she was in, and both times, he was focused on getting her back, and not, at least it seemed, just because she ‘belonged’ to him or anything like that.

Weakest links of the flick were Katana (Who’s character design was impressive, but her backstory, motivation for being with the others, and everything along with it were horrid), Captain Boomerang, who was clearly there to be the ‘annoying’ side of the Squad, and this is an immensely ‘petty’ one on my end, I actually wished that The Wall, aka Amanda Waller’s actor was actually heavier then she was in the film. Her actor was FLAWLESS, don’t get me wrong in the slightest, but being used to the animated Justice League/Unlimited/Arkham Assault Waller, I was slightly hoping for the more imposing figure she was in those series.

All and all though, it was the most ENJOYABLE DC film I’ve seen in over a decade, simply because it was FUN.

So: Part Two, The Secret of the Ooze

Recapping last night’s shitstorm was tonight’s shitstorm, which singlehandedly ruined an otherwise amazing day. We get up, slept in a bit later then we wanted, but got up, got cleaned up, and went out and had an amazing breakfast with @hispersephone ‘s family, stopped by, showed them to my own mother at work, then went to a state park to enjoy the amazing beach. If that was how the day ended, it’d have been fucking fantastic, but no, we had to go out to dinner later tonight.

We get there, things seem good to start, but then the step-mother in law starts going on about shit, and digging deeper, and shit, and when we leave, the tension is obnoxiously obvious, so me and Perse go in the car to cool off a bit. I get a call from stepmom, she’s all “Did you guys leave.” and, as I’d rather them not chase after us so shortly, I say we did. She has a fit, says “Guess you got what you wanted then.” and hangs up.

She then calls ten minutes later, going on about how we’re so horrid for not saying goodbye, when Perse’s father was implying, THE WHOLE DINNER, that he wanted to leave before a certain time so he could go watch the basketball or baseball or whatever game that was on, and then goes on about how they’re so upset and hurt, and that we shouldn’t bother to go see them for breakfast in the morning/afternoon before they fly back.

So yeah, let that be a lesson kids, never go out to eat with parents after you split off for a few hours, it’ll just end in bullshit. Just Stay Home.

Today was a mix of ok, this is good, and ‘fuck this day and everything in it’.

Three words as to why: My (amazing) fiancee’s grandmother.

Longer explenation: My Fiancee, aka @hispersephone ‘s parents are up visiting. They decided to bring her grandmother, a 90 year old woman, to New Hampshire, where two/thirds of everything to do, doesn’t involve sitting. I HATE to bitch about something that sounds so offensive to my own ears, but for fuck’s sake, have some common sense, future parent-in-laws! She’s not going to want to do ANYTHING, so don’t bring her!

On the plus side though, said @hispersephone got me an awesome Fallout shirt, so I win there.
