Kevin Cage of @spotlightsaga reviews... iZombie (S03E02) Zombie Knows Best Airdate: April 11, 2017 @cwnetwork Ratings: 0.869 Million :: 0.31 18-49 Demo Share Score: 8/10 @izombiecw @izombie @cwizombie **********SPOILERS BELOW********** Annnnd... Suddenly, just like that, I feel like we have our 'iZombie' back, and boy does it feel GOOD! Just this morning I was bitching about the effects of taking long breaks on a show. 'iZombie' is a great example of that... Unlike FOX, The CW doesn't really care about ratings anymore, especially since they scored such a major streaming deal with Netflix... A deal most networks would literally kill to have locked in place. So, understand it's not the ratings of 'iZombie' we're talking about here. Yes, they have fallen significantly and yes that has to do with the large amount of time CW waited in between S2 & S3... But once iZombie S3 hits Netflix after it's done airing live to squeeze a bit of money out of advertisers, people will flock to their Roku's, their XBox's, their Apple TV's, their Smart TV's... Whatever it is they stream on, and they'll binge all the episodes that night... But for us loyal Zombie Heads, the timeframe left me scratching my head and not only wondering what had happened last season, but truly searching for that signature iZombie tone and atmosphere that makes the procedural based show so different from the rest of the pack. My memory is a little fuzzy... But let's go ahead and go with... This is the best 'iZombie' episode in recent memory. The groundwork for S3 was laid out in E1, frustratingly so, but we got it out of the way... And now we can get back to what makes the show so damn special, double time. Now that everyone is on the same page, the show feels even more outlandish and really the sky is the limit. There is a certain repetition that goes along with, 'Let's see what type of brains will affect Liv's personality this episode'. Sure it's fun, but now we have Liv & Major working for the same team, eating two different brains, and not only do we have Ravi for great reaction shots... But now we have Clive too. And well, with Clive everything is a whole new ballgame. He's still getting used to everything that comes with *knowingly* working with Zombies to solve cases. Hell, my partner still can't stomach when Liv gets creative with preparing certain cuisine dishes out of her 'brains of the week' and he's watched almost every episode. Clive is literally just taking this is in for the first time... And his face is strangely similar in reacting to brain eating as it is to watching 'Game of Thrones'. Don't worry, Clive... I totally get it. So we have a fun case to solve, and even more exciting, a pair of brains that are polar opposites. Instead of Major taking the Dad's brains and Liv taking the teenage girl's... They flip/flop and it makes for some serious fn' humor. Meanwhile, Clive's connection to the small zombie child we met in the first episode of S3 is explored when he's brought in and questioned about the murder of his family... As apparently he was their neighbor and much more involved than he initially let on. This is the iZombie that I know and love and all the frustration I had with last week's year long hiatus, and trying to get back to this feeling so eloquently captured here in 'Zombie Knows Best' has completely dissipated. Each scene, each moment, each quip and hilarious reaction face, name drop, and whatever else, feels important in this second episode, without feeling like it's supposed to be. This is a huge difference from the first episode, where the show really had to work hard at not only reminding us what the hell just happened, but setting everything up for S3 going forward, and really getting us back to that particular atmosphere that I mentioned before being so unique to the series. Yes, this was a flat out fantastic episode of iZombie... And it's great to watch an episode again and have no complaints whatsoever. Bring on the rest of S3!!!
I think what’s so utterly upsetting about Blaine’s decline with amnesia, is that the look David Anders gives is the same my great grandma had when she first was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. That just wondering and confusion, as others get frustrated, because you think how could they not remember. David is such a fantastic actor.
Was it just me or was that ganging up on Blaine just so sad?
