Hitting the Books
The library was meant to be a sanctuary. Quiet and peaceful, full of aging books and smooth pages, Mamoru could relax amongst the towering shelves knowing he could silently paw through any volume he liked from opening until closing if he liked and not be bothered. He had sat down with a stack of textbooks, happily arranging his notebooks and pens, highlighters and notecards, prepared and ready for an afternoon of studying. Then, he looked up. Sharing a table in a public library was not a problem. That was something Mamoru dealt with almost every time he studied in a library. What he was not expecting was a man sitting across from him to be the spitting image of Zoisite, the Northern King, and the only shitennou who had managed to land a blow on him during their time dueling against each other. He broke out in a thin sheen of sweat, memories of sailor moon look-a-like stabbing him in the back rushing back in a crushing flood. Trying to collect his stationary and books as quietly as possibly, Mamoru backed away as though the man in front of him was a dangerous animal. He turned around to retreat, hopefully before his face was seen, rushing out of the library. Leaning against the columns outside the library’s doors, Mamoru’s hand pressed over his heart, feeling it flutter like a caged bird. He suddenly needed to hear his fiancée’s voice, and Mamoru dug through his bag to fish out his phone, only to hear Usagi’s voicemail message. It was enough, and he sighed, closing his eyes in relief. He yelped when he opened his eyes, staring straight at the man he had been trying to avoid. “Uh,” he said articulately, trying to remember to keep his mouth shut. @izousaito

When the elevator shuddered to a halt, Reiji tried to pretend it was merely stopping aggressively for the other occupant's floor. When a chime didn't ring out to signify the elevator had reached its destination and the doors didn't open, only then did Reiji slowly look up from the insufferable joke he was texting Hikaru to stare at the other occupant of the elevator as though it was their fault. He was a foreigner, and for once had hair almost as red as he did.
For all his eccentricities, his new "roommate" had plenty of initiative, pressing buttons in a vain effort to get the elevator moving again. When that didn't work, he was motivated to call and complain, which to Reiji's surprise actually worked.
After announcing that they would be stuck for at least an hour, Reiji was more surprised at being referred to as "sir." Despite everything, he smiled.
"I guess we'd better get comfortable then," he said, pulling off his hooded sweatshirt to reveal the dress shirt he had worn to a job interview earlier. Sinking down to lean down against the wall, he rolled up his sleeves with a casual air that suggested anything but being trapped in an elevator.
"I'm Reiji Tanaka. Sorry to meet you under these circumstances."

usagi smiled up at iarous, reaching up to adjust the flower crown on his head. he looked surprised, to say the least ;; the blonde could only smile wider at his disbelief. it was so cute !! she didn’t think he got out too often, and she hadn’t gotten a chance to really speak to him after the final battle had happened. but he was still close friends with mamo - chan, and mina - chan had said some really good things about him.
so why didn’t he get closer to everyone else ?
“ iarous - kun, “ she said, her voice soft due to their surroundings. he always seemed busy. the papers sprawled on the desk looked important, and usagi was careful of where she placed her hands. “ we should go out for coffee or something !! there’s this cafe that has great creampuffs. ooh, or we should go see a movie ! or ... something ! “
A Waiting Game

This corner of the Dark Kingdom is a quiet, freezing one - as cold as the ice wielded by the man current at work. His hands busy, one with tools and one with clay, he is ignoring his unexpected, uninvited guest with the absent-minded air of a man who hasn't noticed he has company.
It's a front, of course. One didn't stay alive in the Dark Kingdom by failing to keep aware of one's surroundings. But it is better to be underestimated than to be considered a threat, especially when it comes to this particular uninvited guest, a man as crafty as a fox and unpredictable as a horde of wasps.
And so Jadeite remains silent, focusing on the youma he will shape from this clay, confident that Zoisite's shallow reservoir of patience would run dry long before his own.

agate: how my muse calms down
—
“If I’m alone, I prefer to go for a long walk somewhere. If that’s not an option, then warm tea is the next best thing.
“If I’m with strangers, I try to remove myself from the situation so I can take some time to think things through. Again, a long walk would still be my preferred method.
“Each of my brothers also provide different ways I can calm down.
“With Jadeite, I can vent and say anything I want, and he’ll listen. He won’t offer any advice, but usually I don’t need it. The act of venting to him nearly always helps me come to a solution I hadn’t thought of. If nothing else, I at least get the frustration out so I can reset and calm down.
“With Nephrite, we play chess. Focusing my mind on something other than what frustrated me helps me better process it if I need to come back to it later. If not, I let the stress roll away with each piece moved.
“Zoisite was actually the one who introduced me to drinking warm tea when I’m frustrated. The particular blends of tea he recommends have always been spot on for tackling nearly every one of my moods. I can never make it taste as good as when he makes it…
“And then Kunzite… He’s the one I go to if I’m looking for real advice. Not that I can’t trust my other brothers, but because he knows me probably better than I know me. If I’ve come up to a roadblock causing me frustration that I can’t overcome on my own, he is usually the first I can turn to for advice on how to move forward.
“But most of all… My preferred method of calming down is just holding Usako in my arms. When I’ve had a long, rough day, I can guarantee she will be there for me. Her smile lights up the room and makes me even forget I was ever frustrated. Sometimes I’ll ask her just to tell me about her day, and I’ll zone in on the sound of her voice, warm and soothing and cheerful… It’s hard to stay upset or frustrated when she’s around, even when she might be the cause of a frustration.”

The wanderer often had a wandering mind. For those that passed, for those that knew little enough about him indeed, they might have determined him to be a brooding sort. Curious to know if there was an entire well of information stored up in that cranium of his. Or course, just casually looking at someone like that didn’t reveal much of anything. Only the scrunched up way his face retrained some semblance of an expression when a thousand thoughts indiscriminately ran through his mind.
Presumably.
He spent a lot of time–
– a lot of time—
…. too much time, observing during those hours when others retired to their own respective corners of the world. Some, to rest, others to visit with family or refuel their dwindling supply on nutritional fuel. What did Kenshin have to do but to observe?
He would sometimes wander aimlessly, like he had no real direction, but it was only because of the truth of that place.
Kyoto.
Being there within the boundaries of Kyoto meant that----
Actually, that was one thing he didn’t want to think about. And it was the one thing he needed to the most.
He began to take note of the mundane things in the world so many others might deem irrelevant instead. Those little glimmers of beauty in a world gone cold for him.
He had to find interesting aspects in a world that never ended for him. It never stilled. It never let go him from its dark underbelly.
That was what he had asked for, wasn’t it? The folly of youth.... when he was filled with the will and the capacity to change the shape of what they knew, only to find out things weren’t so easy as all that. Rather than change the world, he changed himself, morphing into something he couldn’t even look at.
Things hadn’t always been so suffocating. Maybe that was what hurt the most.
The collision with another was the only thing that could possibly jar him back into the present. Kenshin was not a terribly imposing figure himself! He was on the short side, small and unassuming. He nearly fell himself. The only thing that saved him was his position before the crash.
Concern was evident on his features then, and a hand almost instantly held out to assist the poor form from their crumbled position at his feet. It took a moment for him to fathom what she said. There was something of a peculiar accent to riddle the tone, warping words or making them sound not quite right to the ear. But the phrasing was well enough known for him to pick up meaning after all.
He smiled gently, making that outstretched hand more evident for her to take if she desired.
“No harm done, I should think. Though I can’t say the same for the merchandise you carried, that I can’t.” He looked down regrettably toward the scattering of items along the dusty street. Already there were urchins lying in wait to take advantage of the scene. If no one else enjoyed the ruckus, they sure did!

SHE WAS enjoying the late afternoon walk through the park she made an effort to take at least once or twice awake, when ami spotted a strangely familiar figure sitting on an oncoming bench. as she made her way closer, and caught his attention, she gave a friendly, if slightly awkward, wave.
❛ I didn’t expect to run into you here, zoisite-san. do you come to this park often?❜
