Post ROK where Munakata and Kusanagi end up babysitting their nieces and nephews together (Сan't remember if it was mentioned that Kusanagi's siblings have kids, but let's pretend they do 🤭)
Imagine Kusanagi wanting to be a ‘cool uncle’ to his nieces and nephews the way his uncle was to him. Maybe one of his siblings happens to be visiting Shizume on a work trip or something and brought their kids along to spend the day with Uncle Izumo. Kusanagi originally planned to take them around the city a bit but then some Strain trouble happens and they all have to stay safely at the bar, Kusanagi entrusts Yata and Kamamoto to help handle the Strain situation for Homra and support Anna while he stays back with the kids. S4 is also dealing with the same situation and maybe their headquarters is even right in the middle of it, Awashima calls Kusanagi and mentions that it’s difficult because the Captain’s niece and nephew are here today. Since Kusanagi is watching some kids himself he offers to babysit Umi and Kai too, assuming that well these are Munakata’s niece and nephew how much trouble could they be, and he absolutely does not expect when Munakata himself comes along with the kids. Umi happily runs into the bar to introduce herself to Kusanagi’s nieces and nephews while Kai hides behind Munakata’s coat and Munakata smiles brilliantly, explaining that he will be assisting with watching the children today.
Kusanagi thinks it would have been nice if Awashima had warned him about this part while Munakata is already stepping inside and noting the various points of Bar Homra which are not safe for children. Kusanagi puts on a fake smile as he says this is a bar after all, and he trusts kids of this age to know better than to start breaking bottles or touching exposed electrical outlets. Munakata smoothly says of course Kusanagi would prefer to base his decisions on the nebulous status of ‘trust’ rather than proactively stopping incidents before they happen. Kusanagi says he doesn’t think children need to be held on leashes, they can enjoy some freedom of being kids, and Munakata says that healthy boundaries are important for children so that they do not grow up to think selfishly. Neither one has stopped smiling but Kai has already nervously inched away to join the rest of the kids and Umi happily says that Uncle Reisi is funny.
Kusanagi and Munakata get to spend the rest of the day entertaining the kids and definitely not trying to show each other up. Munakata doesn’t approve of the way Kusanagi is letting the children run around the bar (well, Kusanagi would rather they not run so close to his wine glasses either) and suggests reading them a story, as it happens he has brought along a fascinating book — the Shizume City penal code. Kusanagi lets him go ahead because it was time for the kids to nap anyway. Umi likes it when Uncle Reisi does the funny voice for Restriction Number 15. Some of the kids are restless about halfway through so Kusanagi grabs one of the books that Anna likes and reads it to them and Munakata is definitely not a bit put out that the kids seem to like Kusanagi’s book better (though Kai sits on Munakata’s lap the whole time). Kusanagi also takes the kids into the kitchen at one point and lets them all make pancakes, Munakata decides that he will assist with this as well and Kusanagi gets to discover that the genius Blue King is actually not very good at making pancakes and causes almost as much mess as the kids do.
Finally the kids get tired and need a nap and imagine Munakata and Kusanagi getting to bond a little over their family situations. Kusanagi admits that Munakata’s niece and nephew are much more ‘normal’ than he expected, Munakata says of course he does after all come from a very normal family (Kusanagi’s mental image of Munakata’s family was absolutely the same as Fushimi and Awashima’s from DOB 2, just two parents and a brother who all have Munakata’s exact face). Munakata says he greatly respects his normal brother though, he feels lucky to have such a family raise him. Kusanagi is mildly surprised that Munakata is not the oldest sibling but then the more he thinks about it, Munakata does feel like a youngest sibling after all. Munakata is amused by that and wonders if Kusanagi is the oldest, Kusanagi responds with a mild ‘no, I’m a youngest sibling as well.’ Munakata notes that it seems they have this in common at least and Kusanagi laughs a little, it seems they both grew up under older siblings but decided to take on that role for others. It seems like Kusanagi isn’t terribly close to his siblings though and that might surprise Munakata, since the age gap between Kusanagi and his brothers is greater than that of Munakata and Taishi, and Kusanagi admits that it’s good Munakata’s managed to keep close with his family even with everything going on. Munakata says even with the parts of his life that he can’t share with them his family are still the ones who raised him, and he hopes that he can do his part to raise these children — and his S4 too, of course — well. Kusanagi says he feels he’s at least done a good job with Anna’s education, so as younger siblings maybe the both of them aren’t doing so bad after all.
