Izzie Preacher's Daughter Leviticus I got emotional thinking about you on the clock today. Like I know she did something unforgivable, worse than naim and ryan and hunter, but she's in the ryan and hunter space of being so unexplored by the movie in a way that is just begging for the audience to fill in the details.

When did she choose to hurt ryan and naim? I think she genuinely meant to help them when she took them aside at the funeral...why else would she tell them about the hospital and other victims? So something else shifted between hunter's death and what she did. Her saying that her dad told her not to blame herself is crazy to me...because either he assumed that she would, or accurately picked up that she did...and I feel like he might have been right or she wouldn't have said anything. Like she sat in the kitchen doing a puzzle while theor parents screamed at her brother for who he is and then made a plan to fix him. And he tried to tell her something was up or she noticed and didn't believe him and now her brother is dead.

But her father said that before LEAVING. He just walked out. She has no brother or father because her father hated her brother and did something maybe knowing it would kill him or maybe just to change him. And instead of blaming her dad who raised her and who she just watched break down in front of her whole town, she looks at ryan and naim. Because they're further from her. Because it hurts less. Because they are there and she knows their secrets and can hurt them back.

i love all the details of the production design in leviticus. I love that the smokestacks have flames in the most poignant scenes, echoing the flame in the ritual. I love that ryan and naim switch rings in the middle of the movie. I love that the weather gets worse, that the wind changes (smoke blows opposite directions in later scenes) as the film goes on. I love that the storm that’s been building breaks on him when naim goes to out ryan and hunter. I love that he’s not wearing oversize layers when he does this; that the rain has only needed to soak through one layer of clothing yet still reveals him at his most vulnerable. I love that izzie is never fully in black; at the funeral she wears a brown jacket, when she drives naim and ryan into a trap she’s in purple, and in the scene where her father is breaking down, she’s wearing a light colored dress. I love that the only other person in that scene not wearing dark colors is naim’s mom, and I think it’s so interesting that she’s literally wearing white.

The most interesting character in Leviticus, in my opinion, is Izzie.

Because she seems so good, and maybe she is. Maybe she isn't the villain everyone thinks she is.

It was a horrible thing she did, taking Naim and Ryan to those guys. I'm not defending that. But she did it because she loved her brother, and in her eyes, they were the reason he died.

She isnt like the rest of the church, at least in my eyes. She doesn't seem homophobic. She just seems angry. Angry that they, Naim and Ryan, took her brother from her. Misplaced anger, but still.

She's just such a fascinating character to me.

I have reason to believe that Izzie’s idea of getting Macca to hate crime Ryan and Naim originated all the way from the original exorcism scene, because why else would Macca be in her room?

If we go back to the scene with her later in the movie, Izzie’s reasoning behind Macca’s attack, had nothing to do with Hunter’s death, per se, but more to do with the lead up to it.

She was mad at Ryan for ‘what he made Hunter feel’ and she was mad at Naim for telling her parents. Both those things came before the ritual. No matter what Naim and Ryan did, whether Izzie’s dad left or not, whether the Deliverance Healer was called at all, after that point, their fate was sealed. Izzie and Macca had already made up their minds about them

Edit : just found out Izzie and Macca are dating… this makes so much more sense now

I hate how angry Izzie, Rod and Jacky were at Ryan and Naim after Hunter’s death. Like those are two kids… they didn’t make you call on the Deliverance Healer, it was your choice.

Ryan being gay isn’t a threat to your family, you’re the threat. Naim didn’t know you were going to fucking curse all the town gays, and was jealous and just acting like a kid.

In fact, Naim did more than any of them combined to try and save Hunter. No one believed Hunter except for Naim. No one was there for Hunter, except for Naim, even after his death. Izzie never once accepted Hunter for being gay, and that’s what killed him.

Yeah I know the grief has to be put somewhere but choosing two queer teenage boys? Rod was involved in Ryan’s exorcism too, where’s the guilt over that?

Heyyyyyy so in the parking lot scene at the servo with Naim and Hunter, Hunter mentions that no one believes him about the Entity

And then in the funeral scene with Izzie talking to Naim and Ryan, she says that she knows that Hunter saw the Entity, she just didn’t believe it

How do we feel about Hunter turning to Izzie for help and her turning him down out of her own fears huh. And that’s why she felt so much guilt over his death, directly saying that she needs to be assured that it’s not her fault, and then finally trying to avenge him (in the worst way possible)
