Je remercie Julie Kenner pour nous avoir proposé son roman en service presse.

Comment ne pas se souvenir de la plume de Julie ? J’ai dévoré la saga Stark avec tellement de plaisir, je me souviens que je m’étais achetée tous les tomes, pressée de découvrir la suite à chaque fois.

Lorsque l’auteure nous a proposé de découvrir « Nos adorables Mensonges », premier tome de la série « Blackwell – Lyon Security », je n’ai pas hésité longtemps. Il est à noter que cette saga a été publiée en 2018 aux Etats-Unis et vient d’être publié en France ce 1ier octobre.

J’avoue avoir été surprise car ce premier tome ne comporte que 130 pages, Julie nous ayant habitué à des romans plus longs précédemment.

J’ai lu d’une traite ce premier tome basé sur la rencontre en Pierce Blackwell et Jezebel Stuart. Leur rencontre va se faire sur un malentendu. Leurs premiers échanges sont froids et distants parce que l’un et l’autre ne sont pas sur la même longueur d’onde. Pierce ne cherche que les histoires d’une seule nuit et voit en elle une nouvelle conquête potentielle, et Jezebel ne s’intéresse pas à la bagatelle, mais veut trouver une société de sécurité digne de ce nom pour protéger sa petite sœur Delilah. Celle-ci est une étoile montante à Hollywood, en proie à des fans très virulents, voire menaçant.

Sur le papier ça part mal. Pourtant, Pierce va sortir les sœurs Stuart d’un mauvais pas et va petit à petit gagner la confiance de Jez. L’auteure n’a pas son pareil pour faire monter la tension entre ses personnages principaux. Le désir et l’attirance gagnent Pierce et Jez au fur et à mesure des chapitres, jusqu’à atteindre son paroxysme. Jez va essayer de résister au beau gosse, mais pour combien de temps ?

J’ai passé un bon moment livresque avec cette petite sucrerie romanesque.

Simple, rapide et efficace sont les adjectifs qui pourraient résumer cette romance New Adult. La trame n’est pas novatrice en soit, mais on passe un délicieux moment. J’ai pu m’attacher rapidement aux personnages, grâce à la plume affûtée et expérimentée de Julie Kenner.

Pierce a créé sa boite de sécurité avec sa petite sœur Kerrie, et ses deux meilleurs amis Cayden et Connor. Les deux prochains tomes leur seront consacrés. Le Second sera centré sur Cayden et s’intitulera « Nos drôles de jeux » et le troisième s’intéressera à Connor dans « Nos belles erreurs ».

Je serai donc ravie de lire ces prochains opus, que j’accueillerai comme des parenthèses livresques « cocooning », à dévorer au cours un dimanche après-midi d’automne, emmitouflée dans un plaid avec un bon thé et un cinnamon roll : vous voyez le tableau ?

Wicked Dirty by J. Kenner

I read this novel because it was the 2018 RITA winner in the erotic romance category. Which mistakenly led me to believe it would be both a good and an erotic read. Spoiler, it’s neither. 

Genre/Category: Contemporary, erotic (but not really) 

Major Trope: Hollywood Star

Is He An Ass? Yes, in the most cliched way.  He has a tragic backstory (tm) and it means he can’t relate to women, so he hires prostitutes and bangs them. Because his mother was one. Then he buys the women a car or something to make himself feel better. He’s as emotionally mature as a dead rat and worse to be around. 

Smut? This book is colder than cold. It’s artic. There’s no chemistry and when they finally bang more than 75% of the way through the novel, it’s 215 words long. I checked. It’s boring. I think I yawned. Twice. 

Other thoughts? The storytelling of this novel is bonkers. The woman’s parts are in first person POV and the man’s in a distant third. I would swear on a stack of Kresley Cole novels that is author wrote the female parts and per publisher wouldn’t approve the novel without the guy’s POV. So she shoehorned it in. The change is jarring and unnecessary. 

Final Grade? DON’T. Do not read this, do not buy it, it is not good.

Entertaining & Sweet!

Lovely Little Liar is entertaining, and a sweet romance that’s lighthearted, fun, and serious. J. Kenner brings snarky banter and heat as mistaken identity brings these two together.

Both are meeting other people, under quite different circumstances, until taken by lust and pure wishful thinking Pierce mistakes Jezebel for his blind date hook-up. After being rejected three hours before his wedding Pierce doesn’t do relationships anymore. He is doesn’t have the time and doesn’t want to put in the effort. But when Jezebel makes a hasty exit, he realizes that just maybe he wanted more with her.

Jezebel is looking to hire some security while her sister the actress in town only to get nowhere with the handsome security guy. But when he comes to their rescue a few hours later, when their location is compromised by a hotel employee tweet, Jezebel sees a very different side to him.

These two, quickly develop wild cravings and desperate longings for each other. With nightly firing and daily rehiring, of the security hunk, it looks like Pierce just might have found the right one after all. Great short read.
