My favorite question and answers to it from this weekend's convention, from the main J2 panel:

Fan: My question for you guys is, you already have such a great rapport with one another, if you could write each other a character in a role, what would it be and why?

Jared: That's a really interesting question. I'm gonna start 'cause the answer to me is really obvious. I would, you know, having known this guy for many years and known him through many points in his life, and seen him outside of filming situations? I'd like the world to see Jensen be a dad, on film.

Jensen: I would want to see something that is intellectually driven. For some reason the one role coming to mind is something like Neo, for him. Like something that really kind of breaks reality wide open. Kind of a thinking man's action role. Cause I just think he's an incredibly -and I think this is one thing he brought to Sam that he did so well - he's an incredibly analytical person. And he can turn that analytical aspect of his own personality into a great performance, and I think that that just elevates the craft that he has. I think he's just really really smart about how he does things, how he plays things, how he presents things. So I'd want to make some sort of, like a y'know smart action figure for him.

J2 being J2 <3

Sure, like a lot of people, I’d love for J2 to get some more interesting asks (hair questions seem to be shaping up to be the new pranks question).  I admit, however, that I am still an absolute sucker for just watching their onstage banter in panels regardless of what the questions even are.  How they riff on each other’s jokes, look to each other for reactions, build off each other’s stories ... ugh, they’re so great at working together. 

I think these were a particularly fun pair of panels this weekend, definitely worth watching.  There’s some nice serious stuff in there about fatherhood, having learned from working with each other, and how they feel about acting/what they see themselves doing years into the future.  As well as several funny moments, like this one:

JP: On that note, legit, I was like, alright, well, you know I’m a healthy dude, take care of myself, all that.  And 15 years of playing like ... [finger quotes] the ugly brother? [Jensen cracks up, fans loudly object] Then we hired Keegan, who is this beautiful big ol’ blue eyed, ripped up dude.  I’m like what the fuck have I done to myself?  Why am I working with these beautiful dudes -

JA: Oh whatever, Fabio.  [Jared takes off his beanie, shakes out his hair] Working with a romance novel cover every time I step onstage with this guy.

I've gotta say I love how, from your panel quotes, it sounds like Jensen found an excuse to bring up Jared in every question! It was like a fan could have asked him what color the sky was and he would have answered, "Well, Jared and I..."

It wasn't every question, especially as there were a fair few I didn't transcribe, but it was fairly frequent.

I do think there's an extent to which it's calculated? Like, of course Jensen is very aware he's talking to an audience who paid to see two J2 panels and are (for the most part) understandably disappointed. So, if they can't get the real thing in person because of unavoidable extenuating circumstances, they'll at least appreciate hearing stories of J2 J2ing.

However I think the number of distinct new stories they tell about each other, even after all these years and including talking about current interactions, also speaks for itself. It would be very easy for Jensen to limit bringing up Jared to the questions about SPN, or to mention any of the other people on the cast he's friends with in conjunction with Jared or instead of Jared. Instead, it's Jared this, Jared that, a little JDM and then also btw at the end of this story entirely about The Boys? Lemme just throw in a compliment to Jared.

J2 had a ball on Walker set??!! Omg, please do share more?

I'm going by two things:

One, what they said last convention in Vegas (Jared being excited to show Jensen off, the cast being bemused by them barely having to talk for Jensen to give Jared directions, pranking each other, etc.).

Two, that one person who talked about being on the Walker set. While this one is definitely a YMMV situation as you should always take anyone claiming to be ITK with a grain of salt? It was an established blog that doesn't like Jensen talking about how in tune they were and mentioning Jensen orchestrating a prank involving the cast on Jared before Jensen told a story that matched up at the con. I don't think I reblogged it and don't know whose blog I read it on, so I'll have to ask if anyone else has the link to add here.

I was going through some of the purcon posts and i found it so endearing the story about jack Quaid and Jared. J2 really are weird in the most awesome way. Never seen two coworkers going around working in other shows and still talking about their one friend from their other show. They really are blabbering around about how awesome the other is.

Even eric dane knew Jared even when he didn't even saw him. He knew the name but he didn't knew Jared's height. That means Jensen was out their talking about Jared even in countdown cast. I find it so cute. 🤭🤭

Yeah, it's really cute that they talk on other sets about each other 🥰
