Jacci Gresham Jacci Gresham was born in Detroit in 1957 but it wasn't until she moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where she started believing that being a tattoo artist was what she really wanted to do. She opened up business in 1976 and became the first Black Tattoo Artist in the U.S. There weren't many tattoo shops in New Orleans at the time, nor any black owned or ones that black people felt highly comfortable going to. Her shop still remains at the same spot it opened, being recognized by those who got a tattoo by her years ago and those who plan on visiting for their first.
