Many animals, such as cats, horses, primates, and many birds, pluck at and preen their mates to groom one another, and bond.

You weren't helping him wash his face anymore, at this point. You were just fascinated by his stubble, poking at the growing beard like you've never seen a living man before.

"...Is this your way of asking me to shave?" "Please, no." He's even more confused.

He certainly doesn't feel relaxed now that his growing hair is being pushed back by a pink bubble headband, but he isn't about to complain about you leering on top of him, something pretty to look down your pajamas while you treated him.

But he was going to complain about you fixing his eyebrows.

"There has to be an easier way, this hurts!"

"I'm not taking much," you dab his brow with more alcohol for numbing. "Just a few strays." "You give me skinny little pencil brows, I'll kill you." "God no, I'm not gonna do that." He taps out after three more. Not that you blame him. The sheet mask is mild, something that doesn't do insane deep cleaning or exfoliation, but something to feel nice and refreshing on his face. This was supposed to be a pleasant experience for him. "I feel like one of those posters at a nail salon, you know, when they put a snail on the lady's face..." You promise him a shower together. Whatever he wants if he quits his bitching and lets you bond with him. Let you take care of him.

While you pamper him you soothe his aching bones. While you meticulously comb his hair (that hardly needed it) you lulled his soul to a rest. He lets you spoil him as much as you want, because even here, as he begrudgingly enjoys your spa night, he does truly feel at ease. The noises do quiet. There's nothing here, but you and your delicate fingers on his face.
