i don't think jack ever asked whether the doctor abandoned him before or after regenerating, because if he doesn't know, then at least he can pretend there was one doctor out there who truly loved him
fifteen and rogue dancing together reminds me of the torchwood episode captain jack harkness where jack dances with jack and god I love doomed yaoi sighs….. I actually liked rogue past the jack comparisons though he was solidly a different character despite the parallels. it’s interesting to me the exact way it parallels though, the doctor being the charismatic flirt while rogue is reserved and kinda nerdy in the way that nine was relatively reserved and jack was the charismatic one….. close enough welcome back ninejack 🫡🫡🫡 I really hope/think rogue is going to make a reappearance and I think it’s brilliant that a man finally gets to be the would-be-companion girl who immediately falls for and kisses the doctor it’s been a long time coming I mean we had to wait half a season for that ninejack kiss. overall I really liked rogue
why isn’t jackdoctor a more popular ship?? hello???
oh they make me ill
idk if this is anything, but i think there's something to say about how jack and the doctor come from opposite understandings of forever.
jack's experiences with immortality and the inherent loneliness of it are based in love. rose loved him so much she brought him back forever and she loved the doctor so much she gave him someone he could have forever. jack was left behind and his first two hundred years of eternity he spent loving the doctor and rose and finding a way back to them. all he knows is that love breeds eternity and that love may always come with being alone.
the doctor is faced with immortality as an inherent nature of his being. it didn't seem so lonely when he was surrounded by those like him, but then he lost them and the rest of his life span is wrought with grief. he views eternity as something inherently lonely because he spent so long thinking he was the only one left to experience it and facing the guilt of that, sequestered to being alone and losing everyone he loves forever. for him, then, living forever means living alone in grief and reckoning with loss.
jack's forever has been and will always be tied to love, while the doctor's is woven in loss. it's why jack isn't scared of spending eternity loving the doctor but the doctor is terrified of spending eternity loving him.
